I was singing his praises was I? I just said that he's a solid large Welterweight and a good test for Floyd (seeing that he beat Berto in impressive fashion). It wasn't like I was comparing him to Leonard.

What? You would have only been satisfied had I said that he was a bum?

Who is Andre Berto? Who has Andre Berto beaten exactly?

I thought he lost to Collazo FFS.

doesn't matter how good or not you think Berto was. He was a titlist and was undefeated in 30 fights or so. A bum doesn't beat such a character. It could be said that Ortiz was a decent fighter but nothing special, sure, but a bum he was not.

The term "bum" is overused in boxing these days.

I won't disagree with that. I don't really call any fighter on the world stage a "bum", cdogg was obviously exaggerating.

I guess you could say "he's a bum at world level".

The truth is these days at world level both Berto and Ortiz are just very average.

    fair enough.

however...in terms of available opposition at 147lbs at the moment...ortiz was a decent challenge based upon his recent accomplishment.

Ortiz was a 3rd, possibly 4th rate champion.

    On all counts.

Heart, Desire, Mentality, Chin, Power.................shame on HBO for treating us like children.

#3 or 4...behind Pacquiao and Martinez(even though he overated the prancing fag his previous few fights have been against much better quality opponents than Mayweather's)....

Nah Floyd & Pac are great. Very good is Ike Quartey. Good is Antonio Margarito. Decent is, say, Joshua Clottey. Ortiz & Berto aren't even good, at this level they're flat out bad fighters.

I think I would pick both over Berto too. Cintron tentatively because, well, he's Cintron, but I think he'd probably beat Berto.

Cintron isn't much at world level, but he beat Angulo, who is much better than anyone Berto has beaten.

The 2 best fighters Berto fought are Collazo and Ortiz, and IMO he lost to both of them.

Clottey is a bit of a whiner/quitter type, he lacks balls, but I'm pretty sure he'd beat Berto too. More skills, better chin, better jab.

OK fine. I can accept that. We agree. And yes Cintron is worse than berto. So's Margarito actually. Tony only has CHIN on berto. Apart from that he's more hittable, predictable and slow as molasses.

Just saying that anyone who Floyd fought, outside of Pacquiao, could be labbelled a bum using the definition applied to Berto and Ortiz.
