Mayweather jr may hate bob arum and not want to work with the guy, but you better believe the feelings are a lot worse on the other side. Arum was surely upset when Delahoya left him to start his own operation, but prior to that top rank made several large paydays on his PPVs. In fact, he made more than Delahoya did on the trinidad fight since Delahoya took a flat fee with no PPV upside. Mayweather jr was on the cusp and Arum never really capitalized on the work it took to build the guy up to super star status. He is obviously bitter about that.

Now, with his claws in pacquiao, he is making nice paydays on these pay per views. You think Arum doesnt have a sweet deal in place with his buddy Steve Wynn when Pacquiao fights in China? Arum is making alot of money every time pacquiao fights. He may not be robbing the guy as badly as Murad Muhammad was, but he is still cashing in. We simply dont know to what extent. It may be that Arum stands to make more having Pacquiao fight scrubs in China than he does as a joint promoter (where he isnt even really needed) for a mayweather jr fight.

We simply dont know what his motivation is, whether it is even in his best interests to make the fight happen. It may benefit him to simply have the fight talked about, and try to sway public opinion that his guy is being avoided. That way pacquiao gets press and his stock is boosted. Where as, if he takes a one sided L then he becomes less of a draw.

He stands to make way more from this one fight and a possible rematch then with anybody else out there. It will benefit both FIGHTERs numbers now and in the near future because Pacquaio is no Maidana and there won't be any one sided win on either side. And after they are done with each other, whenever that is, their numbers will be boosted by their fight when they fight someone else...

The time to make this fight is NOW, regardless what anybody is saying, whether it's Floyd relaxing at a beach or an over 80 promoter... The world wants this fight NOW and will be pretty darn pissed if they fight anybody other than each other.

 

I dont disagree that the fight will benefit pacquaio financially. I question whether and how much it benefits Arums pockets

On the public tv here (cbc), they've announced the fight is official and will be held on may 2 nd in Las Vegas. I don't how reliable the report is.

Fighters don't get beyond needing a big time promoter, but they should be playing them against each other to get the best deal.

You don't need to pay a broker 6% to sell your mansion when you have multiple buyers lined up already. Likewise, promoters don't need their typical cut when a fighter starts out with a fan base that removes risk for the promoter.
