not really sure why mayweather would pay golden boy a % to promote his PPVs and then have to split more of the money with another promoter, Arum, who still owes him money from the ppv percentages from a fight in 2006. if pacquiao left arum the fight would happen immediately. and many of you here would look foolish as fuck
Neil that's just an excuse. For years Floyd has campaigned in the 147-154 vicinity and has avoided fighting the guys who were perceived as threats to his "0" and this is simply another one of those cases. The problem with Floyd is that he wants to avoid the top guys because of one excuse or another yet he still wants to be called the best without actually FIGHTING them. Sergio Martinez for years has called out Mayweather offering as much as dropping to 154 with all the blood testing Floyd wanted Pacquiao to do and Floyd won't even mention his name. The fight with Pacquiao was all but a done deal for March of 2010 and Floyd went to extreme lengths to sabotage it by making demands he knew Team Pacquiao wouldn't accept. Before that Paul Williams was calling out Floyd and that one didn't happen for whatever reasons. Mayweather-Pacquiao won't happen, period. Floyd is too concerned about retiring undefeated to take any risks. Which is a same because he would be favored to win. But he doubts himself.
paul williams :: wonder why that one didnt happen. your examples above are pretty silly. pacquiao was the only fight of the 3 that made any sense and i have explained why it didnt happen. for years i heard how mayweather jr was avoiding cotto. then suddenly when cotto became a free agent the fight occurred.
So you don't think Floyd has avoided top fighters for years? He did fight Cotto but I think he fought him because he thought it would be a walkover.. Floyd wants to be called the best but he has always avoided his biggest threats.
i think mayweather jr fights whoever makes the most sense for him. if pacquiao was a promotional free agent i think the fight wouldve happened years ago. cotto looked pretty damn good early in his career when mayweather jr wanted to fight him. they were both with top rank at the time and arum wanted no part of it. once it became clear mayweather jr wanted out from TR (and after he left) then they began to push cotto as a foe for him. cotto would have always been a tough fight and you could tell by the press conferences mayweather jr respected him. to claim he thought it would be a walkover is silly and revisionist history. after mosley thumped margarito everyone wanted mayweather jr to fight him and i saw many here claiming he was ducking mosley.
yea i forget his name, but some rapper confronted mayweather on some radioshow for picking on small fighters and not fighting mosley. he kept mentioning mosley's name and i think that was floyd's very next fight.
