Moorer was known as a bit of a head case when he was young. He once talked about how he wanted to break an opponent's jaw to see what it looked like and how great it felt to hurt people. He was arrested a couple times, I think for assaulting a cop or something. Like Diego Corrales, he was known for having a Jekkyl and Hyde thing once started drinking.

Actually...if I am remembering correctly...Roger Mayweather was nicknamed "The Mexican Assassin" for a while after winning the 140 lb title because he had beaten a Mexican to win the title and then defended it successfully against some other Mexicans prior to the Chavez fight. And, again, if I am recalling correctly...Mayweather wore a big ass sombrero into the ring for some of those fights. And one of the selling points of Chavez-Mayweather II was Chavez taking down the "Mexican Assassin".

Mayweather claimed Don King was responsible for the nickname and not himself...but he still wore the sombrero into the ring.

I'm not choosing a side in the current debate about whether or not it's offensive...I was just reminded of this by the current discussion and it is interesting that it was a Mayweather who was the "Mexican Assassin" some 20 years ago.

 

& To this Day, Roger Mayweather (& the Mayweather Clan, by Proxy) is STILL UNpopular w/Mexican Fight Fans...& @ Least in Dallas, Mexican Fight Fans Thought it was DISrespectful of Floyd to Wear a Sombrero to the Ring for the Dela Fight....
