Groves has a lot, just did not have the seasoning to make up for the lack of toughness at this level. In fairness to him, he was doing pretty good in there.
Yeah, Lewis chin was pretty decent. That shot Rahman hit him with would have knocked out a Grizzly Bear.
I was a bit drunk by the time the main event started but i thought Froch was relatively dominant. The small ring helped him allot.
Lots of guys have, versus Froch, without posing any problems or asking any questions. And some of these guys, a la Bute, had a lot more seasoning and exposure.
Yeah, but Benn & Eubank weren't great fighters for their generation. If they'd fought Jones, Toney, McCallum they'd have gotten Gerd Mullered.
Exactly. This clown overrates them to no end, cause they were the top UK fighter when he was growing up. Past a certain age, most persons realises that theyr childhood heroes weren't as good/great/perfect as they once thought, yet, a few retards like our own meetthefeebles will always lack the maturity and will perpetually stay with a kid mentality
That's a bit unfair too though Hut, they fought in a MUCH better era. I think Jones, Toney and McCallum would make Ward look like a scrub, let alone Frock.
I had Froch up comfortably, Groves was having his best round of the fight though when he got caught. Great shot.
I don't see how that's the case. What exactly does Collins have CLEARLY over Froch? All I know is, Colliins never beat a PRIME quality opponent. Eubank was past it, and Benn was basically washed up, and was NEVER the same after the G-man fight. And it's not like Froch would have done any WORSE against McCallum. It woulda been the same result. McCallum would have won clearly, but Froch would have given McCallum a tough fight in the later rounds. McCallum was a LEAGUES above Froch as a fighter, but his prime weight was 154. Froch would have made it a tough fight on his size alone. I maintain, Froch-Collins is a pick em. Only sure thing is, it goes the distance. But have very good chins, and neither has the firepower to take out the other. I would give the Collins the edge in chin, and also probably the edge in physical strength. But Froch is a harder hitter than Collins was, and from the outside has a BIT more variety to his game. Hence, why it's a 50-50 fight.
My boy Eubs was never the same after the Watson fight. He looked like a shell of his prime self against Collins. Collins really wasn't that good, I think Frock would beat him.
Collins was fighting guys like McCallum. And doing pretty good at that. I also think he got hit less than Froch. I am not so sure about the power thing. I really don't regard Froch as having any massive big power. He's fighting scrubs relative to the guys Collins fought. Collins dropped Eubank with a body shot and Froch HATES that right hand to the guts. Collins was also very very good at another underrated "Skill".....keeping your hands UP for 12 rounds. Froch cannot do it for shit.

I'm not saying that I couldn't see Collins win it. I just don't see how he'd do it in clear fashion. Only one man has managed to beat Froch by a clear margin, and Collins was NOT the same caliber as Ward. From that 90's era, the only guys I see outclassing Froch BADLY are Jones (obviously), Toney, and also Calz if we're talking about the Calz that beat Eubank. Nunn would outclass him badly also, if we're talking a prime Nunn moving up. Froch could hold his own against the likes of Eubank, Benn, and Collins.
I think Froch would beat Benn....eventually. But he would lose to Eubank. I don't buy the story about how Eubend became a pacifist buddhist monk after the Watson tragedy. Instinct alone would have seen him try his best at times. Collins, if you watch the fights, was a really sneaky counterpuncher with great strength on the inside. I can see Carl paying for his rushes.
I know Collins had skills. It's not like I was trying to say he was Alfredo Angulo. I do think the more violent the fight, the more it would favor Collins. He had a better chin, and yes, was stronger.
The fight tonight will be talked about because of the ending, but there were two amateurish incidents to it...1)_ Frochs big haymaker swing and 2) Groves not keeping his hands up. If you watch the two preceding rounds, a bit of desperation had crept into Frochs work and Groves was coming on a lot. The ending will disguise it. I think Froch is one wrong opponent from being badly bashed up.
The stoppage in the Chunky fight is possibly the worst I have ever seen. However, DeGale looked great, brilliant shots for the knockdown. I hope he gets his chance against Froch.
I was impressed with DeGale, yeah. The stoppage was a bit premature but i wouldnt call it the worst I've ever seen. Not even the worst last night, actually - the stoppage in the Mitchel fight was worse.
