I had it 115-113 but a LOT of rounds were hard to score. I thought Golovkin edged it pretty clear, cannot see any way Canelo actually won.

Apparently, Golovkin only edged it clearly because Canelo wanted it that way.

When he actually fought, he beat Golovkin easily...

GGG won 9 rounds in the fight. It wasn't close at all. I have a feeling this will be Byrd' last fight.

Canelo did pretty well. But it was obvious that his head shots in particular weren't bothering GGG, where GGG's shots were bothering Canelo. Throw in Canelo gassing a bit, and the fight was Golovkin's right there.

Golovkin though has clearly lost a step in speed.

    I was being sarcastic bro.

GGG outboxed him clear as day.

And yes, he's definitely slower now than he was 3-4 years ago. Take the Macklin fight for example. Yes, Canelo is a lot better than Matthew Macklin, but the version of the Golovkin that fought Macklin was a different fighter completely and that Golov would have thrashed Canelo without much difficulty.

Even tonight...he thrashed Canelo without a huge struggle.

Yeah as soon as GGG started landing a bit, Canelo went bright red, gassed and ran.

Outboxed him? You have your own definition of "outbox". GGG outworked him and that's about it.

I'm pissed though as I had $100 on GGG by decision, paying +325. Thought he had done enough.

No, you casual... Golovkin OUTBOXED Canelo.

But we know... we know... only one man can "outbox" Canelo.

In my mind, Canelo is the 5th best middleweight in the world.

Golovkin beat him, and I'd pick Derevyanchenko, Jermall Charlo, and Jacobs over him. Mind you, I'd fully expect all three of those guys to get robbed.

Don't bother debating it with him. Leonard EllerSly said earlier in this thread that Golov only had success when Canelo played around.

I didn't score it but I thought it was very close and I thought alvarez hurt GGG a few times, specifically early in the tenth and a few other times with body shots which backed him up. A draw didn't seem outrageous to me by any means (with the usual qualifier that I watch streams on a tv the size of an envelope). Alvarez' stamina probably would have lost him it on my card had i kept one tho....far too many extended periods of backing off doing nothing.

I watched it a couple hours after the fact without knowing the result on an upload that, it turned out, cut out the last two rounds (which I got on another link). So going into the 9th and 10th I thought there was gonna be a ko b/c I could see there was only 7 minutes left in my link- and watching it without knowing who it'd be I was 75% certain it was gonna be alvarez who got the KO. A very weird way to watch a fight (exciting tho!) which maybe distorted my perception of those rounds but it def shows I didn't think alvarez was being dominated, at all

I can hold my hands up and admit Canelo fought well and is a much better fighter than I gave him credit for. Saying that, I can't make a case for him actually winning the fight, or even scraping a draw for that matter.

CANELO won that shit but I can see why some may have called it a draw. It was a good fight and a close fight. What do you expect? These ae two of the best.

I couldn't understand why so many people thought this would be easy for triple cute - alvarez is an excellent counter puncher with a sturdy chin, whos always looked good when guys came at him . I guess many were reacting to what they thought was the long running over-hyping of alvarez....but they overreacted to it

I thought the jab would break him down and he'd be getting beaten up by the latter rounds but his chin is better than I thought and he conserved his energy well so that he could always fight back and prevent GGG from running him over.

That's how I also saw it.
Maybe a round or two were too tricky to score.

Exactly, he won 9 rounds. It really was not close. He outlanded Alvarez in 10 rounds.

The fight was really what I expected, Golovkin controlling the fight with his jab and bullying Alvarez to the ropes, with Alvarez looking clueless, not really knowing what to do, and throwing the odd huge, fast counter.

Alvarez is tougher with better stamina than I expected, I was pretty sure he'd wilt and get stopped, other than that, the fight went as expected.

Yeah. I said Golovkin is not shot, or borderline shot, and that's true - but it is very clear he's slowed down a bit. He looks downright sluggish now compared to the Golovkin of a few years ago. Bit less snap on his punches as a result.

And no, I don't think winning 9 rounds to 3 in a fight you completely controlled and outlanded your foe - that many picked to beat you - means you were not that great a middleweight to begin with.

Solid performance by Gennady, you can't knock everyone out.

Exactly the same for me. I simply thought Alvarez would get broken down by pressure and power, and wilt. It honestly looked that way in round 9, but Alvarez hung in there and got a second wind.

Did anyone notice whenever Khan was speaking in the studio he had to keep watching a slow-mo loop of himself getting sparked by Canelo on the big screen along the walls? :D:D

Of course he outboxed him. It was his jab and boxing ability that won him the fight.

Alvarez is not a clever fighter, at no point was he outboxing or out thinking Golovkin in there. Golovkin looked the far superior boxer, Alvarez just had faster hands and sharp counters, and evidently a very good chin.
