GERMAN GLOVES (thoughts on scandel)

I saw that fight a long time ago, and I thought Ottke was punching pretty hard for a guy with five or six KOs. He also didn't take his gloves off after the fight. :nono:

 

Gatti made allegations that the gloves were loaded. He said this after he earlier had congratulated Ottkes efforts.

The right hand that Ottke took him out with was bang on the money, just like the right he took Mundine out with.

I was never a fan of Ottke, but he was a very competent fighter. He beat guys like Tate, Brewer, Mitchell, Mundine, Reid, Glen Johnson....he won something like 280 out of 330 ammy fights, and during his ammy career he beat Byrd, Tarver, JC Gomez, Michael Moorer and Zsolt Erdei. and was good enough to partially unify his division as a pro. I mean...come on.

I have no difficulty accepting that Jones would have beaten him, but for people to dismiss Ottke is a foul move born as much out of ignorance and bigotry as anything else. Consider, for example, the man who succeeded him as IBF Champion, a heavily touted American Olympian by the name of Jeffrey Lacy- who went on to achieve fuck all by comparison.

 

To be fair, Lacy also fought the guy that Ottke should have fought right after winning his belt. He didn't sit on it.

Calzaghe would have smashed Ottke too.

I'm not saying Ottke couldn't fight, he was obviously somewhat world class. He won a championship.

are we talking loaded with the poison or with metal or somthing?

I just can't believe there has been SO SO SO much talk/knowledge/evidence of the poison german gloves.. it HAS to be STOPPED!
