Yes. Agreed. And because Canelo isn't as hard-hitting as GGG, or as precise, or husband his shots as well, he would have needed longer to get the job done.

But Brook is finished as a fighter now. I don't think he can win a title again against anyone of note.

Brook is not finished as a fighter. He may not be elite but he will beat all the rest.

That's what happens when you schedule a disgrace of a matchup. You get a disgrace of a fight. Shame on GGG, HBO and Brooks

Lol, you are ridiculous with the Canelo hate. No way would Alvarez struggle with Brooks (unless you think that he also struggled against Khan)

Brook is most likely looking at 154 now. I can't for the life of me see how he's gonna make 147 again without bring totally drained.

He could potentially have success at 154. Especially if he fights Liam Smith after Crapnelo batters Smith next week.

I couldn't see Brook winning against a junior middle like Lara, Andrade, or Williams though.

He took a beating tonight. That eye will swell for the rest of what's left of his career. It's a margarito-esque problem.

He didn't struggle against Khan, but Brook is a much better fighter than Khan. Hits much harder, and has a much better chin. Canelo is lead footed and known for following guys around rather than cutting the ring. Brook would have given him difficulty.

No. Shame on SKY SPORTS and Eddie Hearn.

Brook, GGG kept me moderately entertained.

nah. Hearn game is to get the highest payday possible for his fighter. You can't blame him here.

The real culprit are GGG for being a non-ambitious clown, Brooks for quitting so easilly (or his corner if you prefer), and HBO for allowing this joke of a matchup

No he wouldn't. He might win a few rounds against Canelo (a bit like he did against GGG), but he would not give him a struggle. It would be a fight where Canelo would always be in control. Canelo has already beaten much better movers than Brooks.

Agreed. Even GGG rated his performance poorly afterward. He neglected a lot of the basics which makes him so effective to try to get a big one punch knockout. A lot of yuge missed left hooks that left him vulnerable. After all of that it was still more than enough to win and beat up his opponent.

Team Brook are trying to have it and sell it both ways. He's this brave warrior who went up in weight against a monster but because he had eye problems as the result of his opponent punching him in the face and they had to throw in the towel.

I usually get British streams when I watch fights live but today I wasn't home so downloaded a low grade HBO copy of the fight. I can't say I'm surprised with the horrible bias of English commentary though. Not that American broadcasts don't have their own bullshit but they at least rarely try to shove a narrative down your throat so blatantly.

    Complete with non-shit-SKY-Sports Russian commentary!

Golovkin didnt take a backward-step...Brook was in total survival-mode the first meaningful shot GGG landed.

GGG looked really poor in there, even if he won rather easily. I'm wondering if the reason he's fighting such low-rated opposition is because he know he couldn't cut it against better fighters.
At this point, I'm not so sure he's beating DeGale or Jack.

Brook corner should get a big fine. Stopping the fight at this point amount pretty much to stealing the fans

agree... no clue what some of these fucks think they were watching... He might have won one round... GGG looked like he didn't even really prepare for the guy, just went in there brawling and he still won easy... Brook was well on his way to catching a massive beating when his corner threw in the towel

What!!! don't tell me you where impressed by GGG tonight? He looked terrible. Might be age catching up to him, but if he fights as pedestriantly against Jack or DeGale, who will handle his power much better than a middle of the road welterweight like Brooks, he will be in a real fight

he handled it like a sparring exercise, chase-the-rabbit, fought about as bad as he possibly can and still won the thing easy as pie

    This and then some.

Brook is a brave dude, he stood, made his man miss, threw his own, said balls to the general and bollox to the queen, I take nothing away from his game, limited efforts.

But after the 3rd, I was just reckoning it was a matter of time...as in minutes, not rounds.

It was like watching Frazier vs Ron Stander and having the commentary crew go wild about Standers game efforts............as he took a beating.

Totally outclassed by a guy who really wasn't taking it very seriously and was doing serious serious damage to the head and body all the while.

    That was an "injury" mate.

To listen to people............you would think Brook had twisted his ankle or some shit.

Brook could do and did things that neither of those guys could do...........it's the old Ali vs Norton vs Foreman vs Frazier thing.

People are taking data from different fights and extrapolating onto future events and coming up with wacky answers.

    Again, this and then some.

It would have sufficed perfectly to acknowledge that Brook had let his hands go, made his man work a bit for the win.

Instead, we are getting some blather about how Brook was right in it and was Mayweatheresque and on the cusp of glory but for some freak injury.

I mean......it wasn't even Quarry vs Frazier or Vitali vs Lewis.........there was absolutely no margin for argument.

Brooks eye was broken in the first, and he was nearly down too.

He had a good 2nd and then it was all downhill.

British papers after the 4th round

"This is remarkable. The two men are stood trading blows here, which is a scenario I don't think anybody expected. Golovkin survives a decent body-head combo from Brook before pushing him onto the ropes and shooting a couple of straight rights, but Brook is able to wriggle his way through before landing a right hook of his own, which bounces off Golovkin's chin. It's nap and tuck stuff."

nap and tuck :dunno: The only nap and tuck was in the Theater on Brooks eye.

Brook deserves credit, the dude can fight and he's as brave and tough as two young hungry lion craps. But I had it 3 and one even to golovkin going into the 5th....he was walking him down and, after kell pulled out all the stops in the 2nd to earn a shared round, GGG came straight off his stool in the 3rd and literally busted brook's skull. We'll see if brook can come back from the injury...I hope he does because he'd be a great addition to 154lb
