Sony is freaking out. They are having a hard time selling this film. Fanboys reactions to the trailers have been virulent to say the least. Sony did a stupid move by ATTACKING the fanboys sort like calling them basement nerds who hate women. It backfired. BIG TIME. Many are now pledging NOT TO WATCH THE FILM. Sony's next move was to try to sell the film to women, but their timing of bringing the all female cast to the Ellen show the same day Hilary Clinton was the special guest in an 'all girls show', also backfired as (A) it again alienated guys who now see this film as a chick flick and (B) Clinton stole their thunder, but not only that, many people got turned off by what was apparently as an endorsement to the Democrat presumptive nominee, alienating even Republican females. Sony got itself in this mess and now have no clue what else to do. The latest gimmick: pretend that there are NO FEMALES in the cast... in recent ads were MALE ACTORS have been hired with the uniforms and the classic ghostbusters song like trying to fool audiences. Hmmm...can this film be saved from bombing?

Well, what did we knew! The movie is actually starting to get good reviews, not great reviews, but good ones with a current 76% fresh score at RT...

I don't get it. This reboot has a 'certified fresh' rating with a 74% score? Really? I mean 'The BFG' got mostly glowing reviews, but still at 73% was 'just fresh'. And 'Ghostbusters' has an audience rating of 51% which means most people are hating it!:scratcher:

Still this film is projected to make between $44-$46 million which is atrocious for a big budget reboot.

 

Actually Hilary sort of endorsed the film by showing up at the same show Ellen brought the Ghostbusters cast. Instead of obtaining support the film got backlash for getting into political/gender controversy.

The first film didn't had 4 really fit, attractive males either. Gender has nothing to do with overcoming a shitty film to begin with. The first one was pretty mediocre with few laughs and cool special effects. Remaking that film was the first mistake.

 

True, but in this day and age, fit-women would have attracted more positivity than the hideous slugs that are in this remake....

 

Two of them starred in that blockbuster film 'The Bridesmaids' so it made sense to put them together again. But I get what you said: only the butch blonde Lesbian is the most attractive of the 4.

 

Billy Murray has more deadpan funniness in his little toe than all 4 of those agenda-dykes put together.

 

Murray was not funny at all in the original. His lazy, cringe worthy attemps at comedy were lame IMO. Dan Aykroid and Harold Ramis saved that film from Murray's autopilot performance.

I am puzzled you said that as I am always bashed here for giving mostly glowing reviews to films. When I don't like something I don't hide it either. But you are entitled to think whatever you want about my opinions, which after all, are just mine.

 

Its (semi) official: 'Ghostbusters' is headed to a $75 million loss write-off. Sequels plans have been put on hold...at least live-action ones. Sony is still in denial, though, and keeps saying they are pleased with the success of the film and how much critics and fans loved the film.

 

Seriously? You didn't even like the "this man has no penis" joke? That one absolutely killed back then when it happened. I understand not liking a certain comedians style, as I personally hate Will Ferrel, but saying Murray wasn't funny in Ghostbusters is akin to straight up haterade.
