Godzilla pulled the second best opening of the year with $93.2 million, just behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 m) and ahead of The Amazing Spiderman 2 ($91.5 m). Many were expecting an opening of $70+ million, but the actual numbers have far exceeded that amount. Maybe the studio did the right thing to promote this film more as a disaster movie than the monster battle royale it actually is keeping in mind the disappointing opening figures of Pacific Rim. In the second spot the comedy Neighbors added $26.9 million to its grosses for a two weeks total of $91 million. Holding for dear life in the third spot, The Amazing Spiderman Two took $16.8 million for a three weeks total of $175 million. The Spidey reboot sequel is in more danger than Gwen Stacey dangling from a spiderweb since next Friday opens X-Men: Days of Future Past to push the critically bashed webcrawler sequel deeper down the box office chart. This one will finish as the lowest grossing Spiderman film ever...at least domestically. The baseball film Million Dollar Arm debuts in the fourth place with a disappointing $10.5mllion which is very low for a baseball movie. Rounding the top 5 The Other Woman continues luring female audiences, gay couples (Neil & Clogg) at the tune of $6.3 million for a 4 weeks total of $71 million.
