The only thing I'd caution against is the mentality of Katsidis. He's a physically strong guy and he's young and hungry (much like Juan). Sometime lesser skilled guys pop up with the correct combination of the above to make a tougher than expected fight.

Freitas was mentally weak as was Diaz. Both guys had been beaten mentally in the ring, I'm not so certain that Katsidis would show as much give as you think based on what I've heard about him.

If Katsidis is technically piss poor like a Ponce De Leon, then I'd agree with you. My impression is that he is a straight forward banger, but fights with tons of passion despite and shows a great lack of defense.

We could be in for a tougher than expected brawl, which is why Juan could benefit from boxing the guy in part, making him think. As you noted, Juan's got the skills to do so and he'd show a great deal of maturity by being able to adjust by fighting his instinct to come right back and brawl. he could give a guy who only has one way of winning, the chance he needs to sneak in and steal a fight.

I'm looking forward to it if it's made.

katsidis, like fenech, gets right in his guy's chest and throws short damaging punches. if that's not the right approach against Diaz, i don't know what is.

and i agree with Musze. especially if you saw Katsidis last fight, it's clear the guy has the heart of a lion. and stamina too.

plus you can tell he's a mean bastard. that goes a long way in the ring against a guy like Diaz who thinks he's playing a college sport.

Katsidis will land, theres no doubt about that! He certainly wont go out like a bitch the way Fruitass, and WHOlio did. However, I'm not sure if his skin holds up in the long run. Also his brute strength, and activity could be outdone by Juan's quickness and accuracy. For that reason I'm picking Juan, but Katsidis has a legit chance.

Diaz has fast hands too. Thats what makes this fight great. There should be some furious, quick exchanges in this fight.

    Diaz by technical KO.

Katsidis is not a gifted boxer and has a tendency to square up when he punches, a well placed counter hook and he could think twice about throwing so reckelessly, then Juan could proceed to pick him apart.

The consensus appears to be that while most favor Diaz to win, Katsidis' style and determination would match thatof Juan's...which is something Freitas and Julio Diaz couldn't do.

I think this could be a sleeper and one hell of a fight. I want to see it!

agreed. and as i said before, we can't under-estimate Katsidis' nearly psychotic approach in the ring - the guy is mad about something - that can steal the hearts of college attending fighters like Diaz.

My only problem with Katsidis is that he's so easy to hit (at that level, anyway) and has paper skin. Both are severe flaws when facing a guy with Diaz' superior workrate and stamina.

And just as much as some (of us) appear to underestimate Katsidis' chances, others are questioning Diaz' heart and desire. (Double L  ).

I don't question that from round to round, Katsidis will be far more competitive than Freitas and Julio. I just don't see him winning many rounds, that's all.

I think he'll be more competitive against Diaz than Corrales was against Clottey, but that the fight will have the same type of feel - two-way entertainment, but one-sided scores in the end.

Corrales was getting repeatedly hurt...I'm not sure Diaz will hurt him like that. Secondly, Corrales had no business at 147 and his previous wars took everything out of him (not to mention the hard living and previous struggles to make weight).

The big issue is Katsidis' skin.

That's exactly how I see it, in fact I believe I made that comment on the previous week's Radio show.

nah, no way Diaz will hurt him like that. I was just using the final outcome as a comparison. The scores suggested a complete blowout, but Chico fought back as much as he could, at least through eight rounds (the last two were wipeouts)
