Not to further derail the thread, but there's no way Oscar got robbed against Tito, and if he did, it's just payback for robbing Sweet Pea.

 

He has no one to blame but himself. He had Tito beat then choked. That's his problem.

Trinidad wanted to run it back at 154. Oscar didn't want a rematch.

 

DLH fought the Tito fight as if he were a noodle armed QB trying to game manage, ie playing not to lose, rather than to win

 

What were your thoughts on De La Hoya vs Quartey?

 

Oscar came out afterwards and said the loss wouldn't affect any of his corporate endorsements

 

Not too sure off the top of my head, but I remember thinking neither were robbed of anything. A close fight.

 

Oscar got lucky. He spent way many rounds, particularly from 7 to 11, standing there and doing nothing. Not that Ike was doing much either, but generally he did more than Oscar.

It’s really difficult to find 6 rounds to give Oscar.

Garcia is like a combo of De La Hoya and Chavez JR, but mostly all the bad qualities.

Quite impressive if true. I wasn't expecting nearly that many.

If Garcia and Tank fought a rematch at a catchweight, I think you'd be looking at over 2 mil PPV buys.

My original comment on the fight was that Garcia was either pulling one of the great cons in boxing history or he was in no condition to fight.
There were a lot of videos coming pout on a youtube channel called Fight Hype- I am pretty sure that this comes from somebody in the Garcia family- and it was a steady stream of "Ryan's new knockout punch" short videos. Then there were the videos of him hitting mitts with his father, and the video of him shadow boxing with Derrick James covering his face in the background.
That last video stuck in my head because it was so profoundly bad. I don't think that Ryan is a great fighter, nor do I think that his father is a great trainer. But I know that he is better schooled than that so that planted the seed that there was something going on. In that shadow boxing video, Ryan was constantly crossing his feet, his feet were too close together, everything was off. In the videos with his father, they were in a living room, and he was throwing every punch off the wrong foot.
I have followed Ryan since he turned pro- I have been familiar with his parents before he was born- and there was a lot that didn't add up.
I fell for it, but there was doubt in my mind. I mentioned on here that it might have been a con, I had more conversations like that with boxing guys in real life. Honestly, in certain boxing circles, I don't think that anybody was surprised. I think that, in other circles, surprise was universal. I would be curious to know where Ryan did his serious training and sparring...it wasn't in Houston because it would have got to Haney quickly. He probably sparred and did his real work in the LA area; that is his base and it probably wouldn't get out that he was really working.

Yeah, I already got that part mate. What I was specifically referring to was about you saying that there are ways to manipulate tecnhique to achive certain results, which I kind of have an abstract idea of what you mean, but I'm probably wrong, so I'd like to hear what exactly that is.
