What's so awful about East London?

 

Uhhhhh.............Its not....shall we say.....salubrious.

In fairness, parts of South London are as bad. Both my sisters live in Brixton and observed last years festivities right under their noses. Brixton is in Lambeth.

 

You'll have to be more specific. You could probably say the same thing about parts of most big cities.

 

I lived in Wimbledon, and it was WAY nicer than central London, Bayswater.

East London is pretty scuddy, but not that bad. I've been to Brick Lane and Shoreditch area a decent amount. Scuddy and full of twats.

Where is the worst place in East London? Probably Whitechapel.

The East End has traditionally been the "Harder" part of London. Go right back to Dickens era- endemic overpopulation, bad sanitation and all manner of associated ills. Then on into the "modern era"- the docks, in the East End, caught a lot of bombing. Gangsters such Jack Spot, Billy Hill {himself not a Londoner}, The Krays, then on unto the 1960's and unmitigated immigration, the usual mortgage redlining.....etc.

Parts are improving, parts remain fucking awful.

Hmmm. Depends what you're into I guess. It had a full sized Egyptian sphinx and ancient Greek columned temples, all in doors, which was really impressive and surreal. And rooms of ancient greek sculpture. Maybe the natural history museum is a safer bet but i personally preferred the british museum
