    1). He wanted to win

2). He was afraid of losing

3). He'd gotten away with it before

Certainly, the most diehard Margarito fans (mostly speaking of Margaritoboxing) have to acknowledge the punishment fit the crime. The issue isn't "why" all that matters is they did and copped to it.

It's retroactive for those claiming, or assuming, now that he's been loading his gloves in past fights.

That was not known, or suspected, at the time...and therefore never presented during any of those discussions.

If Margarito was illegally and unknowingly (to the public) improving his performances with illegal wraps, then that was in fact making him a better "version" of the same fighter...something he wasn't against Mosley (even though Mosley admitted after the fight that Margarito, with clean wraps, still hurt him).

Therefore, you're using both the Mosley loss, and the hand wrap controversy, to support arguments that were made long before either occured.

and that is the crix of the other perspective counter to neil's point about proof.

The thing that Reed is saying and I think people are jumping down his throat for other reasons, is that you simply have to have your suspicions about the Margarito/Cotto fight now... Reed didn't even mention the other aspect: Cotto beat Mosley!!! :dunno:

I think Neil and Reed both make valid points and franklyt he commission could clear this mess up by being transparent about what they found.

Margarito's downfall has been the most vicious, violent and pathetic I've seen in a long time.

Let's pretend you're right for one second. Margarito did indeed bust up Cotto that way using regular wraps and made him quit. Considering that result and the fact that Cotto was seen in his absolute prime, why did he, all of sudden, feel the need to use illegal wraps against Mosley of all people? A guy that was seen as declining and pretty much a gimme for Margarito!

I don't know Joony, but something doesn't add up for me. I won't pretend I know Margarito did indeed cheat against Cotto, but after what he did to him, I have a hell of a hard time understanding why all of sudden he did feel the need to cheat against Mosley.

If you're one to make your mind up without having ANY proof whatsoever, this is actually a good point. You could argue that one well.

I think this is the crux of it. Unless Capetillo or Margarito come straight out and admit to using wraps against Cotto (highly unlikely) we'll never know for sure.

So at this point there is no concrete proof.

That said i think most would agree it's a bigger stretch to believe that this was the first time Margarito had his hands wrapped illegaly then not.

We'll never have any proofs of wrongdoings in the Cotto fight though, unless someone of Margarito's team testify, which is highly doubtfull. All we have is conjectures, and It won't lead us far.

As far as I'm concerned, I've got no definite opinion on the matter but what I wrote leads me to believe it is more likely that he cheated before than not. Not enough to overturn a fight, but enough to cast a hell of a shadow over Margarito's biggest win.

Before you post anything you should send it to me first for approval and a consultation.

If you read a quality post here, chances are it was sent to me, edited and then approved before hitting the boards.

It's not a free service mind you, but most people would agree it's worth the money. If you ask around you'll get some testemonials.

maybe in the future they should just have both fighters' hand wraps removed immediately after the fight (in the ring) and kept by the commission.
