I think this is probably the most accurate take on what is going on. It's not like HBO and Golden Boy aren't days, maybe hours, away from being able to work something out when they want to. I can't believe HBO is letting Broner go, though, even for a little while. I watch a lot of those Golden Boy shows that are replayed on Fuel TV. They have a lot of good, solid, unknown Mexicans on their roster.

Yeah, let's all stop pretending Showtime has the budget to hoard all the good fights. G just has to get at the back of the line again. We all praised Hershmann when he was at Showtime, signing fights instead of fighters. Let's see what he can do at HBO with a bigger budget, once he lets loose all the dead weight he inherited from the previous regime.
showtimes budget will expand. lets not pretend viacom is short on money. meanwhile HBO wont show boxing as much. simple as that.
I'm not terribly surprised. The writing was on the wall as soon as Hershman left Showtime to go to HBO and Showtime hired Espinoza (Golden Shower Boy's lead attorney) to run the network. It was simply a matter of time. Did anyone NOT expect Golden Boy fighters to wind up on Showtime after Showtime hired a Golden Boy guy? HBO and Showtime have simply swapped places for the time being. Nothing has changed in terms of what fights will or won't get made. Golden Shower Boy and Top Rank weren't doing business together anyway. If you think about it, most of the shit fights we've seen over the past few years have either been Golden Boy fighters, Al Haymon fighters or both.
In Hindsight, REED was a Bit Perplexed when Haymon Introduced his Recent Olympic Signee's Altogether, On SHOWTIME, as Opposed to HBO.... Makes Sense NOW... REED:hammert:
I agree. This is why I think this development might actually help boxing. As you pointed out, G and Top Rank weren't doing business anyway. So what you had was TR and G competing for dates. This made it all the more risky for promoters to put their guys in tough, have them lose, and in turn lose future dates. As it stands now, it will still be TR vs. TR and G vs. G (no change), but the promoters will feel more secure about putting on good matchups in which one guy isn't guaranteed to win.
