This is a fair point but it's also only one variable. You can also do this:

Cotto beat Mosley - two years before he fought Pacquiao (with a vicious loss to Margarito and a near-loss to Clottey wedged in between)

Clottey beat Judah - a year after Zab was drilled by Cotto and who hadn't scored a legit win at welter in three years.

The worst you can say about Shane going into the Floyd fight was that he was inactive for so long.

But guess what? Pac had every opportunity from May 3, 2009 onward to fight Shane, who was literally begging for a fight. Instead, TR kept Manny the hell away from him.

Shane was the best available welterweight in the world not named Pacquiao at the time he fought Mayweather.

Clottey was not the best available welterweight in the world (and hadn't won a fight since 2008) when Pacquiao faced him. Pac/TR had the opportunity to make a fight with Mayweather and with Mosley. They instead went big dick with Mayweather, and ignored Shane altogether.

I do agree with you on Shane being the biggest name Floyd could have fought not named Manny and I gave props to Floyd for making that fight. It was seen as a dangerous fight to take at the time and I won't try to rewrite history and deny that.

I think we can agree that they both have some decent names on their WW resume and it's probably too close to discredit anyone's opinion on which is better. It's close.

So let's say Pac beats Marg, does that change anything in your opinion?

that was exactly my point, my friend. The consensus was that Pac's WW resume was far superior to Floyd's.

And no, it won't change much if Pac beats Margarito. The fight is at 150, for a JMW title. Has nothing to do with welterweight, nor has Tony looked good since the Cotto fight two years ago.

This is a very good point. Pac's been fighting such great opposition that it's been completely ignored that he basically ducked the hell out of Shane. And even if it was actually Roach and not Pacquiao who feared Mosley, Pacquiao still takes the blame here because at the end of the day it's his team and him throwing the punches.

By the way the worst you can say about Shane going into the Floyd fight is what some (me included) were actually saying. That the Margarito fight was mostly a mirage and that Shane looked like shit in the Mayorga fight on top of his long layoff. It was highly assumed by many on this board that Shane might get old overnight in that fight.

Floyd fought a guy that Pacmans team said was too dangerous too fight. So he is every bit as ballsy.

This is a boxing forum and Floyd is the biggest name in the sport. I have no idea why we are talking about him.

    Oscar/Cotto/Clottey = three solid welterweights

Judah/Baldomir/Hatton/ Mosley= only Judah & Mosley belong there. Baldomir was a lucky journeyman and Hatton NEVER belonged at welterweight.

Floyd chickened out of fighting Pacman. That is all we need to know for the moment.
