Not exactly. David Haye barely amounted to anything special as a cruiserweight, so we can't say he's so much better than the Heavies.
Kind of old news... and we have Pavlik-Hopkins and Calzaghe/Jones to thank for it. Here's how the original HBO schedule played out: 9/6 - Diaz-Katsidis 9/13 - Casa-JMM PPV 9/20 - Calzaghe-Jones PPV 9/27 - Pavlik-TBA 10/4 - Angulo, Gamboa BAD Doubleheader 10/11 - Mosley-Mayorga PPV 10/18 - Haye-TBA 11/8 - Pacquaio-TBA (at the time either Soto or Valero) PPV 11/15 - Taylor-Lacy 11/22 - Hatton-Malignaggi 12/6 - Fishnets-TBA PPV Everyone rightfully went into an uproar when HBO decided to do Casa-JMM and Calzaghe-Jones PPV's back to back, and with Shane-Mayo just three weeks later no less. Suddenly, Haye, who had just signed w/ Golden Boy, conveniently suffered a "minor injury" postponing his heavyweight plans a month or two. HBO reshuffled the deck: 9/6 - Diaz-Katsidis 9/13 - Casa-JMM PPV 9/20 - Nada 9/27 - Shane-Mayo/Berto-Forbes 10/4 - Angulo, Gamboa BAD Doubleheader 10/11 - Nada 10/18 - Pavlik-Hopkins PPV 11/8 - Calzaghe-Jones PPV 11/15 - Taylor-Lacy 11/22 - Hatton-Malignaggi 12/6 - Fishnets-TBA PPV Since it was an injury claimed, Haye can't possibly squeeze into the previously available 9/20 or 10/11 slot. If DLH-Pac doesn't materialize, then they still have to fit Manny in somehwere, though between HBO's loyalty to Golden Boy and Arum's propensity for stirring up shit, it's quite possible that Manny winds up getting blackballed. The only place left for Haye is mid-December, but from what I've heard, HBO's budget is exhausted for the remainder of the year, which is why only PPV shows are being added.
Thanks for that recap. I guess I sorta missed where all the moves and machinations had left Haye. That's a pretty sad line-up the rest of the year. But at least it's got a lot of name recognition.
It's Not Necessarily "Sad", but it Definitely PALES N Comparison to 2007's Pavlik-Taylor I, Calzaghe-Kessler, Cotto-Mosley & Mayweather-Hatton FINISH... REED:crying:
