He has a good chance. Randy loves to push up against the cage and dirty box. Thats toney's specialty.
So what? Toney looks in even worse shape now. Is 41 years old, looks like shit and has no MMA experience. You seem to be the only guy who thinks this wouldnt be funny is James won?
Toney has a chance, and it's not just a puncher's chance although his skills have eroded considerably. I don't see it working out that way when I envision the fight, but he is an all-time great in boxing.
A puncher's chance, to me, means he only has a chance if he can land a lucky punch and win because he hits hard/KO's the opponent. Landing a punch in boxing takes more than luck. Distancing, timing, handspeed, footwork, and technique all play a part. Even though Toney is way past it, he has great experience in getting range and timing his shots. I'm not saying he will do it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him find the range at least once. Couture's chin has been cracked more than once, and he got tagged by Chuck as he moved in. Toney was an extremely skilled boxer and, no matter what anyone tells you, MMA has not caught up to boxing in terms of handskills. A faded Toney still has handskills that many MMA fighters would envy. I fully expect Toney to lose, but if he wins, it's not due to luck. Part of it would be due to him still having enough left to get the timing down and use his diminished skills. He was a great boxer, and sometimes great boxers have one great effort left in them. Couture would be unwise to use his dirty boxing. He needs to take Toney down in a hurry, and I expect he will.
Couture is going to double leg him in 15 seconds and that'll be that..... Because Toney is going to hit a helicopter triangle and show everyone in the UFC what gold belt level grappling is about.
