If you got a slight cramp, then I guess it might be ok. If you are that busy on the weekends though, perhaps you want to take it easy. Not enough is better than too much when it comes to training frequency.

I agree. If you mis-step on a track or the road you stumble. If you are running a 6 minute pace on a treadmill that belt is moving fast. If you slip, you are flying and I SAY THIS FROM experience. I went straight into the wall in the workout room. Thank god I was not in public. That shit hurt too:lol::lol:No, really it sucked.

    that's what I'm sayin..

when you are outside you are in control of the speed and if you mis step you are not getting launched into a big glass windown and getting your nuts cut off

Thanks, LOK. I'm so glad I started this thread.

Ran it in 8:23 today and that is after a weekend of leisurely beverages with my wife and family. In other words, this is just the beginning, and I'll keep burning it off from here on out.:bears:

I will probably do another quick-paced mile tonight along with my 5k. I can really feel the ol' bod tightening up from the sprinting.

I'll probably get my mile down below 8 minutes either this week or next. It's not going to be that hard. Getting it lower than that will be the hard part.

i ate some of those kettle baked potatoe chips at a card game the other night, they tasted like the best chips i have ever had in my life, and i dont even like chips. i knew it was because i havent had any salt or anything sweet in my diet for a long time. i had a bite of my brothers burger at a resturant a few weeks ago that almoust brought a tear to my eye.

Don't sweat it Buddy. It's not like you're competing in a professional competition anyway. Chow down on the junk food when you want it. Just maybe work an extra half mile on the eliptical or something.

I think I probably will use the elliptical today after I do my daily mile on the treadmill. I did my mile yesterday and was glad I did even though it wasn't easy. I want to cut down my time considerably, but it isn't for competition, true---so having the occasional midnight trip for junk shouldn't weigh too heavily on me.

I had a meeting at lunch so I got stuck. Fortunately tonight is a different story. I think I can get my mile down below 8 minutes this week or next, but it'll get harder and harder. Maybe I'll work up to doing 2 or 3 miles at my current pace before I move up.

I broke 5 minutes exactly twice in my life. both times were in the Army, during PT tests, where I twice finished in just under 10 minutes for 2 miles.

I've never in my adult life ran for just a mile, so I don't know how fast I can do it today. On a treadmill I can do it in under 6 minutes, but would result in a <6 minute workout, as I'd be useless to do anything else.

My normal treadmill run is for 1 hour, starting at 6.7 MPH, then moving up .1 incriment for every 100 calories burned and for every mile completed, which generally takes me to about 8.8-9.1 by the end of the run.

Outdoors, I might be able to crack 6 1/2 minutes at my very best, but again, I never run just one mile.

Well, I did 8:03 today and I could definitely have gotten under 8 minutes, but it took a few seconds to speed all the way up to 7.5 m/h. Although my lungs are starting to feel it, I'll break 8 probably tomorrow or the next day. From here on out, I know it is going to get harder and harder, but it doesn't feel as hard as when I'm running 6.5m/h for an hour. I know that in some ways it is easier because it is a slower pace, but it is also harder because it is more time, and technically more work is done in the hour than in 8 minutes.

Still, the pace is quickening. :bears:
