How fast do you run the mile on a treadmill?

People who run a 4-minute mile average twice the speed I am running at. That is pretty humbling, but it also makes it realistic that I can get down to a 6-minute mile or less by spring...on the treadmill. I think I'd need to be down significantly more than that in order to be able to do it on a track. Still, shooting for these types of goals makes it easier to get up early and drag my butt onto a treadmill.

Definitely going to break the 8 minute mark today. I know it is not much, but every milestone is a mental boost. I want to get it down much lower over the next few months. I know my progress will slow eventually, but for now it should keep relatively steady.

7:53. I did this a day and a half after a night of partying, and my butt was dying on that treadmill today. :lol:I know I can get that time down, but to do it, I'm going to have to stop partying so much on Saturdays. I could see it going down over the next few weeks, but it is getting harder. Still, 7 minutes, here I come. :crafty:

If everything is feeling fine, I'll step it up a notch today. My immediate goal is to run it a bit faster than yesterday. Just a notch up on the ol' treadmill. In this part of the world, it gets harder in the mornings to hit the gym. It's a bit darker out and harder to wake up.

Slybiscuit, I could run a 6-minute mile before you could. DEFINITELY!

I'm aiming for it by spring, but I'm gonna have to make some adjustments like raising the incline so that the effort more closely mirrors an outdoor track. I was close to doing it when I was in high school, and I wasn't training specifically for it.

That aside, today I ran about 70% of a mile, but I just felt a bit dead. Maybe I should try to hike up the mile every two days, or maybe I should expand my running at a certain pace until I can do it for half an hour. Either way, I'm getting in better and better shape. That's the main thing!

I read this thread three days ago so I decided to see if I can run the mile in 8 minutes. I ran the mile in 8 minutes 12 seconds yesterday. I started slowly though. I started with 9 km/h and ended running 13.3 km/h.

I actually ran 1.62 km which is about 11 meters more than the mile.

    I ran it in 8 minutes 12 seconds = 492 seconds.

If I stopped running at 1.609 km it would have been:

    (1609/1620)*492 = 488 seconds = 8 minutes 8 seconds.

i had never ran for sports, but swam and jumped rope for a very long time.

i took two months for an 8:43 time to become a 6:16 time.

im gonna start up again soon and keep you guys posted.

any of you guys skip rope?

You think it would take you 4 seconds to run 11 metres?

It's been awhile since I had, but I thought about starting up again and adding 15 seconds a day at a medium pace.

7:35 today. I had taken a few days off, and I was actually rather sore from having NOT run in 3 or 4 days, so I ran at a nice and steady 7.9 miles per hour, speeding it up towards the end.

The next immediate goal is to run it in 7:30 or less. I know I can do it. It just takes preparation. I can't run everyday either.

Well, I know I'm a week or two away from getting that sub 7:30 mile, but slow and steady is the course. I plan on doing a few things to change it up, including changing the angle I run at so that there is a bit of an incline. That will simulate conditions to be a bit more like the resistance of an outdoor track...which I will need during the winter so that I don't injure anything by running outside and slipping on ice.

    I'll try that tomorrow.

I vouch for LOK. LOK's a top skipper. I saw it in the watermelon video. Hey LOK, how many calories can I burn from skipping?

You should incorporate crawling. I've heard that crawling intensely for a mile not only burns calories but it works your arms, shoulders and entire upper body. Try it.

It wouldn't be feasible for me since I run on the street. That would tire a person out though just by being so unnatural for an adult unless you're crawling out of a bar at 2 in the morning.

Well, I wasn't able to run today at lunch due to a meeting. I'll be trying to get er done tonight though.

I have run the mile in 7:53 minutes today.

Damn, Rainmaker is gaining on me. I better step it up over the next few days. I have to make it down to 7 minutes within the next few weeks. :fightme:

Actually I haverun 1600 meters in 7:53 minutes. A mile is 1609 meters so I have to add a few seconds.

Friday I will try to run a bit faster again. Thanks for starting this thread Buddy. This really motivates me to run faster.

    Buddy Rydell Boxingpress Alumnus

Same here. A bit of competition is healthy. You're probably running about 7.5 miles per hour. I'm running at about 8 miles per hour, but I'm gonna turn that up.

I did a nice early morning run of over 5km in 30 minutes. I know it's not really fast, but keeping that pace for over 3 miles is respectable. I plan on nailing 7:25 or better sometime this week.:crafty:
