Were you the one who dipped Wlad's gloves in itchy powder before the Byrd fight?

The conspiracys and their lunacy go both ways.

I think Wladimir knocked Byrd down enough in two outings to suggest it might have been more "itchy powder", but you raise an interesting point.

I don't want to be a Klitschko, a Ukrainian, or anything else. Boxing has to get its act together. It cannot continue down this road of ridiculous excuses and half-truths....it cannot entertain people with unlit cigars any longer. No more of this BS about how Vitali only has a title .....because of basketball, man.

If the Klitschkos didn't exist then Arreola, Solis, Haye and Johnson would be in America taking part in a lovely little box-off, the revenue would be top dollar, and everything would be just fine, and the rude health of the division would be hailed by all.

Remember- Lewis used to be the same cancer that the Klitschkos are now. Just ask Wally Matthews.

Take it up with Doug Fischer- he had an entire theory on it about stuff being used on gloves in Germany. He however, has never heard of Luis Resto, so don't bother with that.

I don't have to take anything up with Doug Fischer. Or Max Kellerman for that matter.

You're one of the ones hung up on it.

    Now, as you were...

    nonsense

you remind me of small town guys I know around here who are always going on about "effin Ni&&ers (or any other group of people who dont live right next door to them) ... they all live off of my welfare that I pay for... they are living the good life while Im workin" ... similar sentiments are expressed about gay people by paranoid christians who are convinced that there are are 200 million gay people in America who all want to fuck them personally and shit on Jesus's chest... they hear a handful of stories and quickly make the leap to believe that its all true, that its all the norm

you are like that with arabs and boxing... 3 or 4 guys write stupid articles and now IT'S AN EPIDEMIC...

It's quite strange, this obsession Irish has.

He's so obsessed by American boxing writers that, instead of engaging in some letter-to-the-editor writing campaign, he brings all his shit to message board and does the reverse of what he claims he hates about American writers, all the while putting himself up on a pedestal for doing it.

Oh, and Irish, as you were...

If I find objectionable drivel seeping into the mainstream press then I consider myself not only entitled but obliged to get stuck into it and subject it to some sort of scrutiny. If more people acted like this then less drivel would get printed and we might actually have a boxing press of some worth.

Kellerman is as much a broadcaster and presenter as anything else. He used to write some columns not so much now.

Steve Bunce, Kevin Mitchell, Glyn Leach are all British.

I don't put myself on a pedestal in fact I would say that my own incorrigible nature plays a large role in my ability to detect and identify identical traits in others.

Taking one to know one, as it were.

the boxing press isnt all that important... most informed fans dont take them particularly serious at all

where people get annoyed by you is that you only scrutinize American writers this way and you attempt to put the thoughts of those American writers into the heads of the Americans you encounter on here... it makes you look like a reactionary fuckhead... and when you behave in a manner very similar to those writers, just from the opposite persepctive, it makes you look at best foolish

I don't think the American press would be especially accomodating of a pair of black, local brothers who dominated the division if they were as dull (both in persona & ring style) & as relatively-limited as these fellas are. Holmes, Charles, Liston. All better fighters than the Klitschkos (Charles, pound-for-pound) who were savaged & lambasted by their own press.

I think the gripe people have with you Irish is that it is always about a nationalistic conspiracy with you & these two fighters --- but if you're convinced that's the case, you gotta do what you gotta do.

He's well-read like a guy who got handed his dad's back issues of Boxing Monthly and The Ring.

Or maybe he bought some past issues on ebay or something.

He doesn't always read like a guy who actually watched as many fights as he writes about.

In fact, if he'd watched many of those fights, he wouldn't need to rely as heavily on what's in those write-ups, IMO.

But whatever. Irish is who he is.

Re: Irish; You guys sure like ganging up on a fellow. I've never seen a forum where so many personal shots are taken.

The Lewis-Vitali fight reminds me of that movie anticipation thread in General Discussion. After the fight was over you had this immediate feeling of anticipation for the rematch. A match that it turned out would never happen. If you're a fan of boxing, even if you are also a Lewis fan, then I don't see how that can sit well with you.

Back to the OP: One could argue that Lewis's best win was his win against Vitali. So... how could Vitali be shite as you seem to be insinuating with this thread, if he is the best win of an all-time great fighter who fought some big names in the history of the division?

I actually think Wlad would be very popular with the American media if he was an American. He is a good looking chap; he dates Hollywood celebrities, he is the HW Champion of the World and he has an all-time KO %. The media here would eat it up.

I had the sense that LL was beginning to get the better of that fight but that's just my opinion. I was disappointed that there would be no rematch but after seeing the shape Lewis came in with and the fact he sat on the title for near on a year doing nothing, told me he didn't want it anymore.

Can anyone post a picture of a worse cut in a boxing match? The fact that he had 3 cuts was bad enough but they gave Vitali another round after his eyelid near came off while they wiped the blood away. Also after they'd jammed a tissue into the hole.

I just can't see how that stoppage can be viewed as quick or a bad decision. Disappointing end? Sure but that's all.

Notice how Mercer is complimented for losing to Larry Holmes in the 1990s....in a "great fight"
