Ward will take this guy out , mark my words.

Ward will frustrate him with sneak-counters, bemuse him.

I doubt Ward can stop Kovvles. But in this sport, we've seen some pretty surprising outcomes, so I can't say it's impossible.

I'm pretty confident in how I feel, sadly. Ward will pull away late.

God I hope I'm wrong. Kovvles is my favorite current fighter along with Spence.

I'll pick Ward by decision, getting rocked and maybe dropped along the way but overcoming it and winning a 8-4 type fight.

I'm not especially confident about this pick.

    SORTED

Though it sounds like Ward had his biggest fright since Sakio Bika.

uh, no. it was not a fright. it was a loss. and there was no bemusing and very few, "sneak counters." (less than there were for kovalev).

I agree. I watched it again on YouTube and I just cannot find more than 5 rounds to give Ward. He was backed up all night with Kovalev landing the harder, more damaging shots. Very few "sneak counters" by Ward landed and when they did I didn't see much power on them.

    I don't see a rematch happening.

Ward was the better fighter in the second half of the fight and that's what champions do, they close strong. Good decision from the judges. Vladimir Putin is none too happy but he should have realized that Ward was no faded Apollo Creed. Lol

The thing is, I didn't see any clear separation between Ward and Kov in the later rounds. The crowd was so HEAVILY pro Ward that they were screaming everytime Dre let his hands go. And I'm thinking that somewhat swayed the judges.

The truth is, Kov was still having success late, and deserved the win. It wasn't a "robbery" per say, but it was disappointing, because it was a case where you KNEW the "name" gold medalist was gonna get the benefit of the doubt.

Fair enough. I think Kovalev is the bigger name at this point though. I agree Kovalev was still having success late but Ward just seemed to be more accurate and he seemed fresher down the stretch for me. Those body punches seemed to be taking their toll on the Russian.
