Many fighters arent. But we arent talking about them, we are talking about jones. When you have to cut 25 to 30 pounds, you are not at your proper weight. Sorry.

This is what is so laughable. So tell me, how much weight can a fighter cut and still be considered at his "proper" weight?

Is it 20-25 like Anderson Silva? Is it 15-20 like GSP? Is it 10-15 like Aldo? Or is it zero like, well, like no one.

The funny thing is, from a proportional standpoint, Anderson's cut to 185 is more significant.

    LOL

Agreed, maybe Anthony needs to define an exact % of bodyweight that's acceptable to lose, so we know who is and who isn't fighting at his "proper" weight

So Anderson's cut is more significant. SO FUCKING WHAT? This thread is about Jon Jones. I have no where said that Jon Jones is the only fighter not fighting in his proper weight.

The only reason i am talking about Jon Jones is because this is a jon Jones thread.

the funny thing about this thread is that i have a bunch of people arguing with me when the should be arguing with the original poster. That is who your issue is with. You are arguing with me over nothing. I have no issues with Jon Jones or whatever weight he is fighting in.

All I know is the only comment that prompted me to respond was YOU saying Jones isn't a 205 pounder.

    What???

Then how come you didnt respond to that comment specifically?

I dont think he is a 205 pounder. I think he is a natural Heavyweight. But more power to him for the discipline he shows cutting that weight.

Kongo weighs 234 so around the same as Jones between fights. Hardly one of the biggest heavies in the UFC

These pictures never show how pencil thin Jon's legs are. That is why he makes 205 without issues. And it's also why it's not easy for me to see him having issues at HW.

Precisely. Same reason guys like Tyson and Tua are way heavier than they look.

Also look at Cheick's forearms compared to Jones's.

I'm wondering what people here define "proper" as? Almost everyone who competes in a weightclass cuts. Very few people don't cut nowadays because they know that other people will be doing the same.

Jones makes 205? Cool. That's his weightclass as he has done it since he started in the UFC.

I read on Tim Ferriss's site that Anderson Silva cuts from 230.
    http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blo...e-building-secrets-of-ufc-fighters/#more-9570

If true, he's still a middleweight because he can make the weight. The lines are definitely blurred on what is fair and what isn't when it comes to competition, but if you make the weight, that's your weightclass. Whether it's "proper" or not is another story.

Even a number of heavyweights do in the UFC. Lesnar used to cut to make the 265lb weight limit in the UFC heavyweight division.

I think what jones does is completely fair. I think if he can make 205 great. But i think he belongs at heavyweight. I think he will be comfortable, which to me, makes it his proper weight class.

Arlovski is also one of the most muscular fighters you will ever see. He's a true mesomorph without an ounce of fat on him. He's very densely muscled (As opposed to some fighters who just seem to have a higher proportion of fat cells, Arlovski always looks like he has ZERO fat cells in the pictures I've seen of him). Jones is lean and lanky. Even at his heaviest, I wouldn't call him a thickly-muscled person.

But he is clearly comfortable at 205, not drained at all.

He gave an interview recently where he spoke about how cutting weight was difficult prior and now it's better with some new thing he is doing. So we really dont know much about it. That being said, if a man says that his goal is to fight at heavyweight and that is where he will retire, it's clearly the weight he is most comfortable at.

The "Proper Weight" Argument Typically Applies to a Guy Fighting @ a HIGHER Weight Class...In Boxing, 147 Clearly WAS NOT Manny Pacquiao's "Proper Weight"...Anthony is Applying the "Proper Weight" Logic in REVERSE...

I dont mind. I feel these guys are arguing the original posters point and not mine. I disagree with the original poster too.

pretty much. And i just think he will be so comfortable at heavyweight. He will be the greatest heavyweight champion of all time IMO.

    How So???...

Jones is a YOUNG, SMART Guy...The Vast Majority of Men NATURALLY Pick Up Weight, as they Approach the Age of 30...When Jones Says he'll Eventually Be a Heavyweight, he Knows that EVENTUALLY, his Body Won't Allow him to Fight @ 205...

That DOESN'T Mean Jones is a "Proper" Heavyweight RIGHT NOW Though...

He walks around at 235-240 pounds. He has said it was difficult to cut weight. That tells me his proper weight should be heavyweight. Which is basically 1 pound over 205

    When Did Jones Say that???...

As Previously Noted, Guys like Rampage, Forrest & Even Anderson Silva, Walk Around @ Similar Weights to Jones...Are they ALSO "Proper" Heavyweights???...

REED Thinks an MMAist would Be ILL ADVISED to Campaign @ Heavyweight, Weighing JUST Over 205lbs...
