There's always something left to prove. At least when you are 30 years old, like Floyd, there's no free pass to avoid challenges and challengers.

I thought at best it was an even round.

And by that point, every time Mayweather landed clean Hatton was backing up and on shaky legs, and his body was rocking with every clean shot.

I don't know that Mayweather planned on that shot being so perfect, but he had landed that short, inside counter left hook before (and in that very round) and it was the type of shot all night that made Hatton back up and re-set.

I thought he had countered off the ropes very effectively all night....he'd back up step by step, Hatton would bull in - and Mayweather would catch him with a lead right or left hook or uppercut clean (sometimes several) as Hatton came in.

It wasn't so much brute power, it was how CLEAN and squared-up Hatton was getting caught....which multiplies the effect.

Hell, in the 7th or 9th Mayweather was snapping Hatton's head and shoulders back with a JAB.

I dunno...I can't see Hatton doing any better at all.

As OC says, the only point to a re is if Hatton wants to cash out.

    Peace.

If the division were devoid of any talent or serious contenders/titleists, then ok (and/or if PBF were of a previous era/generation and was "old").

But Floyd is 30, and in a division with plenty of challenges.

    Peace.

So if Floyd retired now, he'd be retiring unproven?

He'd be retiring as a good fighter who handpicked much of his opposition and never cleaned out several divisions. Agreed?

Floyd has to fight Cotto. He will look bad if he doesn't. If Paul Williams beats Cintron and unifies, he will need to fight him as well. With those two victories, Floyd could retire with a great legacy.

as far as a rematch, Ricky wants nothing to do with it.

Floyd does not "HAVE" to fight Cotto IMO.. Cotto is a young hoe.. Floyd has been at it for a while

I agree. Floyd MUST fight Cotto. But after Cotto...he could retire IMO. The winner of Williams/Cintron would only be icing on the cake.

He'd beat either...but Williams would be more difficult.

    no

he does not need to fight cotto. This is the reason fighters fight 2 long. You never run out of someone people think you should fight.

Floyd broke Hatton in the 8th. I knew it was over at that point and just a matter of time. He ripped the body and took everything out of Hatton.

One of the reasons I think Floyd carried him was how much Floyd was talking about wanting to fight in Manchester and kissing up to Hattons fans after the fight.

Cotto's been fighting pro since 2000, has won trinkets in two divisions, and has 30 pro fights.

Cotto is not some young up and coming fighter, that time has well passed.
