To me it's not really that kind of an issue, it is just boxing talk, bro.

idiot? I think the guy is intelligent. He's got all of us talking about him when there's a f*cking superfight tomorrow which he has no involvement in.
Hopkins knows how to pull those strings.

I agree with you. It's really just smack talk from someone who isn't very well educated and so has the tendency to blurt out stuff randomly.

Still it was a very foolish thing for him to say in my opinion and not very classy.

    I agree, sly.
The fight is going to happen, and this just makes for more buys.
    Controversy?
I love it...brings more folks into boxing.
BTW: I like Bernard's chances in this fight.

I guess if dragging things to the gutter is intelligent, then Hopkins is a genius!

    Fair enough.

In terms of the fight (f*ck me, is this like 'on topic' or something), I'd like to see the fight but only for curiosities sake- at this stage I'd take JC to BATTER Bernard.

IMO, JC v Dawson or Woods would be better fights to watch, though neither would happen because the money aint right...

A PRIME Hopkins bottled Joe five years ago when there was a ton of money at stake- there is NO chance this old, has been Hopkins will get anywhere near a ring with JC.

I'll take a bet right now with anyone who thinks he will... :crafty: :crafty:

Most ignorant remarks are made by stupid (I don't use educated because you are talking about indoctrination rather than education) people with a tendency to randomly blurt out remarks that should have been held back. Are you willing to understand others like you understand Hopkins?

I'd agree for the most part, except that it's no secret that Bernard is in fact a racist POS. This comment was just a mere suggestion of it, far from some of the worst shit he's ever said.

I'm still amazed that he's lasted w/ GPHM as long as he has. He must be getting paid some serious coin (which would be ironic, considering how much he loves to toss around the sellout and Tom label to any brother he feels isn't on his level).

And all that said, Joe deserves credit for not taking the bait. With the crowd on hand, he could've easily got caught up in it, and play the numbers. Instead, he showed his character and kept it.. well, as professional as the situation called for (as he was jawing plenty at Hops before and after)

:dunno: How can it be, how can it be?,..that's amazing, little biddy Bernard Hopkins the bite-sized life-long middleweight,...TOWERS...over the life-long Supermiddleweight who apparently struggles to make 168? Yes, yes, what an extraordinary victory it was for Hopkins to beat Antonio Tarver, given the size differences  ?

I'd love to re-inact that scene from the Wire, by putting Bernard behind a glass panel and asking him, ad nauseum, "Where Bouie At, Bernard, Where Bouie At!"!!!

Calzaghe was busy prepping the crowd, doing little shuffles and all, I think Bernard and Roger and what not were not in the least comfortable at being made outsiders at what they regard as their own weigh in.

If they had the weigh in SAME DAY, none of this would have happened. It all could have been avoided.

I'm white I don't think this makes Hopkins a racist nor does this offend me. I just think he thinks black people are better fighters/athletes...doesn't make him a racist.

But really, who does a comment like that hurt? It doesn't hurt white people...one in a million people become paid athletes and for the rest of us athletics has no bearing on our lives other than entertainment. Comment like this actually hurts black people because it opens the door to think that, while everyone has been telling us since we were babies that we are all the same and just have a different look, maybe we do have fundamental differences and the proof is in the fact that we excel in different areas. Black people very generally excel in athletics so if you need to hire an athlete maybe you lean toward hiring a black person...white people very generally are on a higher level in academics/economically so if you are looking to hire someone to do a job other than athletics you lean toward hiring a white person. A whole lot less athletes are being hired than non-athletes, so all opening the door to that line of thinking can do is hurt black people. If black people choose to accept comments like this they gotta know that.

Usually I would agree with what Hopkins said except that

Calzaghe is Italian...if he was irish he might run at all costs to avoid the fight and if he were american (pavlick aside) he might be defeated mentally even before he got in the ring

Italians have always been the best white fighters throughout the history of boxing and I expect Calzaghe to beat Hopkins
