I'd never be bothered by the fact that some of my fellow posters are just plain simple.

    It is the internet afterall.

The casual fan may see the fight as "boring", if it plays out in a certain way, but to many others they will it find interesting and tactical.

Now that both fighters are past their prime, I think we could be in store for a much better fight.

You must not have heard of PBC then. If it succeeds, boxing will be back on mainstream tv on a regular basis. As for the UFC, they're s lot of concern with their declining PPV numbers. As of now, it seems their gamble with FOX hasn't panned out at ll. They have to fix it and find new stars or they will be back to niche status soon enough.

They are usually the highest rated show in their demo. And PPV numbers are actually pretty good. There are few stinkers, but overall, compared to Boxing, The UFC generates more successful PPVs year round.

I just looked at 2015 ppv numbers and you're right, they've done far better than 2014 (the numbers I had in mind when making my post). Still, with Silva out and Jones suspended (the reasons for their 2 biggest shows of the year), my point about making new stars still stand. You can only depend on Rousey so much and I doubt Velasquez or Weidman will ever achieve mainstream status (though stranger things have happened, see Floyd).

Well Weidman has been in some of the top PPV grossing matches. Obviously Silva was a big draw so those numbers were high. But his machida fight topped 500k. Rousey is of course a start. Jon Jones is a draw and Cain Velasquez hasnt fought in years, so who knows. But They also have Connor McGregor, who is the next big star. His fight will Aldo i think will do huge PPV numbers.

Casual fans won'T really care if the fight is boring or not (unless it's reaaaaaly boring), they're mostly there for the atmosphere. Kind of like every dumb chicks (and guy's) you know become a NFL fan the week of the SuperBowl, but they don't really watch the game itself (mostly gather for talking and hanging out).

I'm more worried about the decision than the fight itself. MUCH more worried about that.

If the fight isn't action packed, yet the decision is just, things will be fine.

IF one guy wins clearly, and the other gets the nod, THAT could hurt the sport.

I hope its not the plan to rob one guy to set up a rematch.

The fight ITSELF will be fine. Obviously, it ain't gonna be Hagler-Hearns, but I honestly believe it's gonna be a good fight. Once that 12th round bell rings, THAT'S when I'm gonna get worried.......

That's why I'm praying we see a stoppage. Whether it be Floyd or Manny getting stopped (rather it be Floyd), just hoping we see a stoppage and not leave it in the hands of judges who VERY likely have an agenda.

I have nothing against TFK at all, I just think it's a silly thread. Like I said, there have been PPV stinkers before, and they had on impact at all. It will be no different with this fight, which I am expecting to be kind of boring btw, so we'll see :kidcool:

My thoughts exactly, on why it won't matter if it's boring. Most people watching will be doing so just for the big event. As you say, it would have to be really boring, like one of the most boring fights ever for it to have any impact, and I can't see it being more boring than Oscar - Tito or Oscar - Floyd.

I'm hoping boxing succeeds on network TV. If the PPV model does die, network TV would be a great way for the sport to flourish. I'd love to know what kind of ratings and money a fight like Pac\Floyd would generate on free TV. If they could put Mega events like tomorrow's fight on free TV, I think it would do wonders for the future of the sport. Just imagine how many people people would watch the fight tomorrow if it were free. It wouldn't reach Superbowl numbers, but it would be a hell of a lot of people.

As for the UFC, their biggest problems right now is they have over saturated the market. There is just too many cards put on right now. UFC's used to be an event, and fans would go out of their way to see every card. Now there's just so many cards, catching them all isn't possible. And with too many cards, the product gets watered down.

I've been posting on mmanews.com forum since 2006, back when UFC was booming. The majority of folk on there grew out of the fad and stopped having UFC fight parties because it's way oversaturated and the cards are not worth buying. These are hardcore fans mind you.
And that idiot Dana White bragged that his little fight promotion would surpass soccer and the NFL in popularity.
They had to paper off half the Bell Centre last weekend because nobody gave a sh*t about the event and many walked out during the main event.
Simply put..people pay to see superstars. Having a billion cards doesn't entice people to buy the product.

Agreed, the UFC has become ridiculously watered down.

You know, at peak UFC time sometimes I'd even watch the UFC card live instead of boxing, as it would be so stacked and packed with good fighters and matchups.

Now I don't even bother to watch it live, if the card seems decent enough I'll watch it the next day. A lot of them I don't even bother.

Cards have been pretty stacked recently. With the few exceptions.

Any true fan of fighting should want to watch UFC 187. Daniel Cormier will fight Rumble Johnson to see who's the best at light heavyweight. As long as Jones is suspended, anyway. Chris Weidman will lay a beatdown on Vitor Belfort to retain the middleweight belt. Unless Vitor is cheaing or has found some other way to beat an all time eilte fighter in their prime when he's almost 40. Every fight at UFC 187 is worth watching.

Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson both have serious speed and power in their hands. Both guys are used to finishing their opponent early and brutally. The fight could end in the first round from boxing alone.

Cormier is an Olympic level wrestler, so he might use that part of his game too. You might not understand that part of the fight if you think two men grappling for their lives is gay porn.

I don't even know who half of these cunts are and I like UFC.

Meanwhile, even bearded vegan hipster street poets have heard of May/Pac.

I watched at an upscale strip club (the $15 cover was cheaper than almost everywhere else) and by the 7th or 8th round felt like the air had been let out of the room. I was surprised that Floyd got the louder cheers in the building at the start of the fight. Throughout the fight the only time the crowd was excited is when Manny threw combinations Floyd picked off.

As the fight progressed you could hear side conversations. By the end of the fight there most of the crowd was turned away from the screens and chatting at the bar.

Who'd buy a rematch? No one. Not after that hype at that price.

    Neither guy thrilled.
