That's the Mike Tyson fan approach. Say he wasn't himself in all of his losses and dismiss every loss.

I always thought he should have retired after the 3rd Frazier fight.

I remember reading an interview with Holmes a long time ago in which he said he was offered a Foreman fight in 1976, but he passed on it and Dino Denis ended up taking the fight instead...with predictable results.

It was probably a smart move by Holmes at that time.

Ring size would make a real difference in a Foreman-Holmes fight, I think. Bigger the better for Holmes

An interesting fight for sure, not really sure who would win, though I'd probably pick Holmes.

Uh, oh...are you advocating a clown ring??

You are right, a bigger ring would benefit Holmes, because Foreman was actually good at cutting the ring off and he wasn't as easy to outbox as is often suggested.

A clown ring would definitely be a godsend for Holmes. If I had my way every fight would strictly be in an 18x18 space. :fightme:

and the fact that he blatantly cheated throughout the Ali fight, by illegally pushing his head outside the ropes any time Ali even sort of put an attack of some kind into play... He should have lost numerous points for that from the official

True...but he also was good enough to come really close against Norton and handle Ron Lyle twice.

Young had an up and down career...but there was a time when he was good enough to hang with any heavy around in the 70's.

Foreman was such a mental mess, anything could have happened.

He ducked Jerry Quarry and that is a fact substantiated even by him.

He would have gone on to win a few more, but if Larry Holmes made it through the first few rounds, it could have been bad for George.

Foreman may have been not all that interested in a Quarry fight, but there's little doubt in my mind that he would have beaten Quarry with room to spare. Quarry was a good fighter, but in over his head against the very best.

Yeah, Quarry may have presented a modicum of danger as a natural counterpuncher with some spirit, but I have no doubt in my mind that George would have eventually pounded him bloody
