Valero was an unhinged, quite possibly brain-damaged sick fuck. He was batshit from day one, then bashed his head on the pavement, then took more digs to the skull......he was an atavistic little shit.

I think Monzon was just a bully at heart, loved to push smaller people around.

 

Valero probably had major control issues. He didn't want his wife to be a person. Either that, or she was just there and he felt that her purpose in life was to be his punching bag. If she disagreed, things got worse for her. The guy was a psychopath, no question. What's disgraceful is how the Venezuelan government allowed this to continue when they knew what was going on, just because of who Valero was and the potential he had. This wasn't ordinary domestic violence, iirc he put the woman in ICU before her death.

 

Yes, he had also discharged a firearm at her or his mother or her mother or something too.....and yes, Chavez worked the guy for all he was worth. And, when the guy became an embarrassment, and much like Monzon didn't have guts do do himself in, they finished him off in a cell, and called it suicide.
