Aside from the rest of their sublime offensive and defensive skills, Leonard and Hagler were both excellent punchers and even better finishers. Not Julian Jackson level, but they could hurt most anyone - and once they had that person hurt, they inevitably finished them. Again, I'm not saying Hearns had a great chin, just that he's no Terry Norris - and it seems as though you're talking like there's a blueprint laid out for beating Hearns, just because Leonard and Hagler were able to do it.

It was a LOT more than just "being aggressive and attacking" or even "being aggressive, attacking, and having a good chin." Otherwise we'd all have Shane Mosley beating Hearns in MMs.

The topic makes me think of guys who are slow and lumbering and who can do almost nothing except hit stationary targets very hard.

Butterbean is maybe the most extreme example. A guy like Tua also comes to mind.

But I guess it's true too of even the most skilled punchers - that if you stand in front of him, you're going to get knocked out.

Jackson BECAME chinny towards the end of his career because he was way past his prime. He was also a natural 154lber. McClellan was the biggest lightheavyweight in the middleweight division fighting a guy who bulked up to middleweight. Don't give me that bullshit. McCallum is an ok example, but NOBODY KO'd McCallum.
