Yes he is. Easily. Linares is shit. BARELY scraped by Luke Campbell and went life and death with fuckin Kevin Mitchell of all people. Postol was the first to stop Matty Ice, more impressive than any win on Linares' resume. Unless you're impressived with Linares' outboxing the mighty Anthony Crolla. It's gotta be the fact that Linares has a more aesthetically pleasing style than Postol, but that doesn't make him better. Linares is very easy to hit. Busts up easily. Has a mediocre chin, and less-than-great stamina. What in the FUCK is good about him once you get passed his smooth combinations?
I completely disagree with the entire point of this thread. Loma is an amazing boxer with all time great stamina and his defensive reflexes are on the level of Roy Jone’s offensive reflexes. I don’t know if he started super late, had various injuries or didn’t fight very often but having only 13 or so fights is the bigger issue. The guy is already past his prime at age 30 so if he’s starting to slip it’s no surprise people would question his greatness, but I won’t. When I watch Loma it’s like watching a guy box in a way I’ve never seen done before. I can’t put my finger on why that is but Loma is amazing. Sure he got hit more often in this fight because it looked to me like Pedraza tried to fight Loma’s style, sitting right in the pocket, utilize constant head movement. I thought it was was why Pedroza did so well.
Loma's defensive reflexes on the level of Roy's offensive reflexes? Ohhh Good Lord, no! This is exactly what I mean... Best defensive reflexes I've ever seen are Whitaker, Floyd, Benitez, and Locche. If we're talking purely defense, all four of those guys had better defensive reflexes than Loma. And that's just naming the top 4.
Yeah Linares is a bum. What’s his record again? What’s good about him? He’s a very good boxer who beats the guys you put in front of him. You want to complain about the quality of his wins or his style of fighting as your reasoning he sucks? Funny thing is, we’re having this debate in the same thread you’re making a similar argument about Lomanchenko.
Linares is obviously better than Postol. It shows how thin Crawford’s resume is that you have to hype up a mediocre guy like him. Diaz was better than Postol.
Yeah but I didn’t say Loma’s defensive reflexes were better than those guys although I think they’re just as good as Floyd’s. It may not appear that way because Floyd doesn’t sit in the pocket putting himself in dangerous territory the way Loma does. That’s what makes Loma’s defense so special, it’s because he’s displaying great defense while being offensively aggressive. I haven’t seen much of prime Sweet Pea or Benitez to comment on them.
Really? Based on what? Who has Linares ever beaten? I'm waiting... Imagine the level of shit Postol would get if he struggled and got dropped by Kevin Mitchell and got a razor close decision over Luke Campbell. Postol just fought arguably the best junior welterweight in the world on even terms until the last few rounds when Taylor pulled it out. And this was an aged, inactive Postol. Taylor would stop Linares inside of 8.
The Crawford hate/Loma worship is strong on here. Guys on here would pop a blood vessel if Crawford's name was ever compared to Floyd, Roy, Whitaker, ect... But the comparisons are made all the time with Loma, and it's totally acceptable. And I love how his loss is TOTALLY written off, despite the fact that he's never faced a physical, mauling guy like Salido since... Couldn't handle Orlando Salido, and he gets a couple more fights under his belt, and I've heard his fanboys speculate on him beating Chavez and Duran. Is this real life? Why is it blasphemy to call Loma overrated?
I agree. Pedraza tried to emulate Loma's style. Was interesting. He even used the rapid fire jab like Loma does.
Answer is: neither Postol or Linares are impressive names to have on your resume. But it's not Loma's best win.
And while we argue Loma vs Crawford, the whole time Inoue might really be the best fighter in the world. Honestly, if they were the same natural size, I think Inoue fucks Loma up.
I didn't say Linares was his best win. As it stands, the Russell fight is still Loma's signature win. But the Russell win also came directly after his loss to Salido. Did he became a COMPLETELY different guy in 1 fight? How come he gets so much praise for Russell, while the Salido loss has been expunged from memory?
Luke Campbell is an Olympic gold medalist, it's hardly damning evidence of being shit to have a tough fight with him. Loma lost a split decision to Salido in a world title fight in his second pro match-up. I think a lot of world class fighters might have taken an L if they'd tried the same thing. Not even going to bring up the controversy surrounding it as everybody knows about it anyway. There's way more nuance to that fight than just being a loss and Loma not being able to "handle it". Chavez and Duran, they had tough fights as well. Guys like Armstrong and Pacquiao got knocked out before even fighting for a title, they're still ATG's. Also, being a fan of Loma does not mean you hate Crawford. I think TC is a great talent despite his CV being a bit thin right now. I think he may end up having a Hopkins-Tito moment which solidifies his position. Could well be the Spence fight.
