Yeah I think Curry was a guy who was extremely skilled but had a certain vulnerability to him when the heat was turned on. He was a a tad bit of a front runner.

I think Quartey COULD have beaten Oscar(He did the first time). But his late rounds stamina was an Achilles heel.

Gee, Curry's whitewashing of McCallum is right up there with Judahs outscoring of Tszyu and Gainer's wide lead over Corralles.

Curry had weight issues and he didn't get stopped by Honeyghan, he plain quit.

He couldn't make 147 that night and he wouldn't have made it in the rematch.

Now, if Don hadn't gone into that grudge match with Emmett Linton with acute pancreatitis, he would have won.

Lacking the Mental Toughness of Hagler, Leonard or Robinson Doesn't Equate to Curry NOT Being Mentally Tough Though...There's LEVELS to It...

Unless You Think it's EASY to Win 400 of 404 Ammy Fights and Become Undefeated, Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the World???...

Curry Hasn't Been a Terribly COHERENT Communicator for the Last Several Years and His Opinions Have Been All Over the Road in Regards to the Honeyghan Fight...

What we KNOW Is, Curry Had Trouble Making '47 PRIOR to Honeyghan, Was Ranked as High as # 2 Lb for Lb by Some, w/Rumors of a Superfight w/Hagler Circling...He Solicited Advice from His Idol, Sugar Ray Leonard, Who Directed Curry to His Guy, Mike Trainer, Who "Suggested" Curry Remain at '47 Loooooonger…

Next Fight was Honeyghan, Curry Loses, Any and All Luster of a Possible Hagler Matchup was LOST and Leonard Eventually Swoops in and Beats Hagler...1 of THE More Diabolical Instances of Boxing FUCKERY in the History of the Sport...100% Factual...

And Just to Put a Cherry On Top, Curry NEVER Fought @ '47 Again, After Honeyghan…

In NO Way Did McCallum's Record Signal to the Masses he'd "Eventually" KO Curry...If That WERE the Case, McCallum Wouldn't Have Been the UNDERDOG Coming In, Which He Was...

Even w/the Honeyghan Loss, Curry was FAVORED to BEAT the 31-0, 28 KO's McCallum...But Hey, Don't Allow FACTS to Get in the Way of Your Futile Research...

The only ONLY argument I ever made for Klitschko was that IN THAT FIGHT he should have been allowed continue, and that Lewis, thereafter, preferred retirement.

Klitschko was stopped on cuts, never off his feet, Curry, and ironically you make the argument for me, was in a much better position and STILL got blasted out.

It's like saying Walcott was ahead on the cards, was a better fighter and had dropped Marciano in their first fight, he's just gotta win the rematch. Nope.

I don't question Curry's heart like some, what I DO question is how a guy can take bad knockouts and boil down for too long and have any career left thereafter.

For me, Curry vs McCallum 2 has "Matter of time" written all over it.

Same with Amir Khan vs Garcia....."OH man he was totally lighting the guy up". Yes. Then he got hit.

And the rematch, were it to happen TOMORROW, never mind immediately, would happen the same way.

No, You Teetered Towards Lennox Being OBLIGATED to Give Klitschko a RE and You Never Hid Your Disappointment About it Never Transpiring...

Even PRIOR to This Very Thread, You Spoke of Vitali-Lennox as a RE That Never Happened, That You Could Conceivably See the OTHER Guy Winning...

    Period...

There's NO Absolutes Here, it's ALL Conjecture on Your Behalf, REED's and EVERY Poster that's Voiced an Opinion on the Matter...On That Note, PLENTY Of Fighters Have Reversed Fate and Fortune After Being KO'ed by a Guy...And REED Isn't as Dismissive of Early Rounds Success in a Fight a Guy Loses as You Seem to Be...

Obviously, There's Not MUCH to Glean in a 1st Round KO Loss, Even if the Loser Had "Success" Early...But When a Guy's Borderline SCHOOLING Another for 4 Rounds and Gets Stretched in the 5th, You CAN'T Just Gloss Over 4/5ths of that Fight, Sorry...No, it Doesn't Mean Curry For SURE Wins a RE, but it's Certainly @ Least a FOUNDATION for Suggesting Such...The JOURNEY is Part of the Result, Like it or Not...

And to Be Clear, REED Only Said He'd "Possibly" Tab Curry to Win a RE Over McCallum...Honeyghan's a Different Matter...There was NATHAN Special about Lloyd Honeyghan, the TIMING was Right...No NUANCE or TRICKERY to his Style @ All...Had he Faced Curry a Year or So Earlier, REED FIRMLY Believes Curry Wins...Likewise If they Had a RE @ '54...

Curry Faced THE Best of the Best as an Ammy, Internationally No Less, AND he Did Likewise @ '47...It's NOT Like Honeyghan Showed Curry Something he'd NEVER Seen Before, Not as if Honeyghan Reinvented the Wheel, he just Caught Curry @ the RIGHT Time...

    Ah Yes! Hindsight REVISIONISM...

Sorry, Pre-Fight PERSPECTIVE Matters Doub...Otherwise, You Can't FULLY Appreciate just How IMPRESSIVE it was for Dela to Have Faced and Fought Quartey as he Did/When he Did...Or Floyd to Beat Genaro Hernandez and Angel Manfredy in Consecutive Fights...

    Or Ali-Foreman...Or Pacquiao's Consecutive Wins Over Hatton and Cotto...Or Holyfield-Tyson I...

You're Usually a Proponent of NOT Judging a Guy Off a Loss or 3, but that's PRECISELY What Hindsight Revisionism Does, in Most Instances...

Honeyghan perhaps was nothing special, the same way Tarver was nothing special. Curry couldn't make 147 and Roy was never the same after dropping 26lbs in a few months.

These things do things to people.

Lloyd Honeyghan never gets ANY credit for the Curry win.

Hell, Douglas gets more credit for the Tyson performance.

Weight drained or not, Honeyghan dominated Curry and made him quit on his stool.

It can't be totally swept under the rug for Curry.

Don looked incapable of adjusting to Honeyghan's awkward style.

And I say he lacked intangibles because he went out with a total whimper. Weight drained or not, he shoulda showed SOMETHING.

He got fucked up, and quit.

Maybe it was the weight. Maybe it was the lack of training. But let's not pretend it wasnt also Honeyghan.

Camacho vs Rosario: Macho would be too scare to try anything and would run away all night. Rosario eventually would get him and knock him out or just win via UD mainly due to Camacho's lack of punches landed (too busy trying to survive).

Gomez vs Sanchez: I know you will disagree, but at the time all bets and all experts were picking Gomez to win. The Gomez that climbed the ring that night didn't trained much, had to lose weight the same day of the bout and just simply underestimated Salvador Sanchez, who in turn trained like a demon for the fight of his life. A rematch would have seen a more disciplined, focused Gomez with the motivation to avenge his loss. I believe he would have won the rematch.

I do think Gomez was capable of doing a lot better against Sanchez.

We'll never know if he coulda WON, but he had the skills to do a lot better than he did.

He got badly staggered in the opening round. Curry was hurt and busted up in the early rounds.

The theory that Curry can come back and beat McCallum because he blitzed the first 4 rounds of that fight must, by dint of any serious corollary, mean that Honeyghan can beat Curry again in a rematch.

As you said (I think it was you), McCallum was already laying the framework for breaking Curry down and beginning to bust him up.

So even if that left hook doesn't KO in Curry in the 5th, by the 9th or 10th Curry would still have been a swollen, busted up mess.

Mike always beats him. But don't expect McDogg to admit that. He loves Curry, and he isn't too high on McCallum.

The first 4 rounds means NOTHING in a championship level fight.

If it did, Zab Judah would have a win over Floyd.

And Khan would have a win over Garcia. And Walcott would not just have a win over Marciano, he wins the rematch too, etc etc.

I really don't care about Curry or McCallum to be honest.

I only look into McCallum as it were because he emphasizes how good Steve Collins was, or wasn't , at World Level.

I'm not incredibly high on McCallum.

For instance, I think Hearns beats him, though many disagree with that.

But Hearns had physical tools that Curry didn't have.

No, it Means You WON the 1st 4 Rounds, No MORE, but No LESS Either...Again, the JOURNEY is Part of the Result...

And Even if the Winner of Those 1st 4 Rounds Eventually LOSES, Do YOU Think for a Second the Trainer of the Winner's Next Opponent WOULDN'T Dissect those 1st 4 Rounds for Things HIS Guy Could Potentially Exploit? Conversely, Do YOU Think for a Second the WINNER'S Trainer Won't Dissect Those 1st 4 Rounds for Areas of IMPROVEMENT In his Guy???...

You KNOW The Answer to That Already...

Not entirely true. He convincingly beat a prime Blocker after beating Curry. Also destroyed Texas-boy Gene Hatcher inside of a round.

Wasnt Honeyghan a hard partier? I think that had something to do with his brief prime.
