I'm not a fan of Floyd...

    "However"

Like it or not, Baldomir was the linear champ and the money to fight him was EXACTLY the same why WOULDN'T Floyd fight him?

I still haven't heard a credible argument as to why Margarito was a tougher match than Baldomir. Margarito's best win was against Cintron a year and a half earlier and his only fight in early 2006 was a KO over the fossil Shotgun Gomez.

At least Baldomir had beaten the linear champ (Judah) and KO'd fan favorite Gatti. Both wins were more significant than what Margarito had done in the past three years.

I dislike Floyd as much as the next guy, but there's absolutely no reason, practical or financial, why the Baldomir fight wasn't more important than one with Margarito.

Maxboxing has more to do with the Margarito myth than Margarito's own promoter, Top Rank.

Angel's my homeboy and all, but he's dead wrong on that number. I don't know where he got it from, but the official number filed with the NSAC was $8,000,001. That's why Arum, who made such a big stink BEFORE the fight about verifying the amount with the commission, had fuck all to say afterward.

I agree with everything posted by Muzse in this thread, so no need to repeat.

I stand corrected (and I should know better)...

Floyd made MORE to fight Baldmoir than what he was offered to fight Margarito.

To continue down the Maxboxing-Margarito Myth line of thinking...

I've heard Steve and Doug on more than one occasion state that no one has yet to prove that Floyd made $8 million to fight Baldomir. That's simply bullshit and either they are flat out lieing or they didn't do their homework.

I bash Floyd every chance I get, but some things aren't warranted.

First of all, that was a mistake by Goossen to deliberately beat 8 million dollars by just 1 dollar, tsk, tsk, implying Fraud was better off fighting Baldomir for ''more money afterall'' he meant??,... if Goossen wanted Fraud to be financially better off for having ducked Margarito he should've paid him $750,000 more, know what I mean?...

Second, if your saying, like most others have said, that "Fraud took the fight with Baldomir to become the linear welterweight champion of the world" if you believe that was Fraud's personal motive, watch that video I provided, to hear from Fraud himself why he ACTUALLY took the fight with Baldomir if you want it directly from the horses mouth.

Third, you've gotta be a straight up Margarito hater to use Reed's ridiculous profiling system of categorizing Margarito and Baldomir as being carbon copies of one another, carrying over an agenda to suggest that a victory over one merits a victory over the other,... the styles, strengths, physical advantages, infact, Margarito holds EVERY SINGLE advantage over that useless scrub who a shot Vernon Forrest shut out far more impressively than Fraud did.

    :nono: Muzse please,..

A credible argument for thinking Margarito would be a tougher fight than Baldomir? How about watching their fights?

If you actually believe that Baldomir was/is better than Margarito or would have been/would be a tougher fight than Margarito then you are in a very small minority. A small minority that would never back it up with a straight up bet, i suspect.

Only with paper, looking at a judah or clottey win could anyone give baldomir a chance against margarito. On every tv screen that's ever showed them fighting, Margarito is the clear, easy pick.

I think Margarito is a better fighter than Baldomir and had a better chance than Baldomir. Margarito is quicker (or less slow) than Baldomir, hits harder, taller, rangier, and has a better workrate. Both are tough and determined. On Baldomir's side, he throws his shots straighter, as Margarito loops a lot.

Did you REED my post? I'm thining not seeing that most of what you've said has nothing to do with what I wrote.

If Goossen was retarded for paying Floyd $8 million, then Arum was equally retarded for offering Floyd $8 million to fight Margarito considering Tony had a difficult time getting past Clottey then lost his very next fight.

The bottom line is, whether you like it or not, Judah WAS the champ when Baldomir beat him and that supercedes Margarito's previous best outing against Cintron.

Guys give Floyd a hard time for not beating a quality guy since 2002 and yet they conviently forget that Margarito's previous best win came against Soft Heads in 2003.

    That's not hate, that's FACT.

At the end of the day, what matters most is the competition you face and whether or not you win. If you think Margarito's first round KO over Shotgun Gomez gave cause to warrant a match with Mayweather, something is wrong with you.

Here's the reality of the situation...Top Rank stalled Margarito's career by not getting him fights and ONLY offering (or pretending to offer) Tony a fight with Mayweather when they had no real interest in the fight UNTIL Floyd bought out his contract. Prior to that, they had no real use for Margarito.

Margarito was so frustrated with Top Rank that he took short money for the Williams fight because he didn't want to lose his title and didn't want to sit on the shelf HOPING to get a fight with Cotto.

The whole Floyd situation was a smoke screen by Top Rank, coupled with the shameless plugging of Margarito by Maxboxing. You can blame it all on Floyd, but the finger SHOULD be pointed at his promoter for not doing what was best for their fighter.

His punches that loop over and under are unconventional and tricky to defend against, Cintron found that out, and felt completely vunerable as Margarito managed to penetrate through his guard at will.

 On a side note, you are probably the only objective fan of Fraud on this ENTIRE messageboard, and not a ridiculously biased, uncomprimizing groupie.

I read your post and addressed two of your points, the Baldomir - Margarito reference was from an earlier quote.

:nono: What should "warrant" fights is consensus opinion, fuck Fraud's little derranged narcisstic, victorian styled class-system, nobody demanded Fraud - Bruselles, or even Fraud - Mitchell, nobody asked for Fraud - Judah either, coming off that humiliating loss, a fight against Margarito was certainly more "worthy" than either of those at welterweight.

Cintron is a quality win for Margarito, who would murder Zab and Baldomir to put it mildly, as would today's version of Joshua Clottey, yes at the time Margarito's best win was Cintron, but it was, and still is, a dangerous and more formidable opponent at welterweight than Fraud has ever faced, so what if Judah was 'da champ', that requires "oppurtunity" these days, and Zab's oppurtunities are seemingly ENDLESS, talk about "proven" and "warrantable" Zab appears to be an extremely forgiveable, perpetual BUST, and thus, the most overrated fighter in boxing, capitalized accordingly by Top Rank.

Margarito didn't take "short money" to fight Paul Williams either, it was infact reported to be his highest perce to date..

and yes it was a silly thing for Goossen to draw attention to the 8 million and 1 dollar perce, considering Fraud dropped a $750,000 dollar alibuy, so he wasn't financially better off facing Scrubdomir, and neither were the consensus of boxing fans who would much rather have seen him take on Margarito, I'm sure of that. :nono:

Its all just a bunch of he said she said bullshit. Not really a big deal in the big scheme of things really. Floyd fought Baldomir instead of Margarito because it was extremely low risk, and he could have the linear championship at WW. Margarito is significantly bigger and although he is dog like slow, he had a punchers chance while Carlos didn't. Floyd got the belt he wanted which set up the HUGE payday with DLH. We can all pick at Floyd, he has chose his fights very carefully since leaving 135 with low risk, high reward being his main theme. But SERIOUSLY, would anyone have fought Antonio instead of Carlos knowing the golden carrot in ODH was right around the corner?:dunno:

I like Floyd's choice in Ricky, is it the best fight out there for him? Financially yes, competitively no. But if he beats Hatton and then goes for the winner of Mosely/Cotto he will get his respect from me. I don't think I will ever be a fan of his, but nevertheless:cool:

First question...do you write for Maxboxing? if not, you're obviously a fan and bought in to their line of BS 100%.

What you fail to realize is this...

The exact same reason Floyd gives for NOT facing guys (because they're not worthy) is the EXACT same logic you're using for WHY Margarito deserved a fight with Floyd.

Lest we not forget, Cintron had been inactive prior to the Margarito fight and had previously had surgery on his hand. He wasn't completely healed when he faced Margarito.

Besides, Floyd spent more to buy himself out of the Top Rank contract than Margarito has made in his entire career. That alone says how little Top Rank has done for Margarito.

The problem I have with Steve and Doug and the Maxboxing spin machine which came with Margarito is how they laid the blame which should have gone to the promoter at the feet of Mayweather. Their whole MO was to talk about how Floyd wouldn't fight Margarito instead of placing the blame on Arum and Top Rank for not getting the guy meaningful fights.

    The story goes like this...

1). Floyd isn't the linear champion, Baldomir is.

2). Floyd ducked Margarito and refused $8 million

3). Floyd got $1 more for the Baldomir fight but Margarito was the better option.

Notice the pattern? No ones placing the blame at the feet of the promotional outfit who is SUPPOSED to look out for Margarito.

Top Rank made absolutely NO effort to get Margarito and Floyd together when Floyd was signed to them and the fight was easy to make. What makes you think the fight could have been made after Floyd left Arum?

"Like I said before..." there are few on this board who hate Floyd as much or more than I do and even I can't blame him for Margarito's inability to get decent paydays and fights.

Floyd doesn't really have that many uncompromising groupies here. Maybe a couple, but that's it. I think your hatred and obsession (which is quite disturbing) of Floyd is making you think that everyone defending him is a groupie, when he really only has a couple here. There are more posters who go out of their way to frequently bash him than there are who frequently praise him. But thanks for the compliment regardless.

You present it as though it was simply an option of fighting Baldomir or Margarito, but Mayweather was offered $8 million to fight Margarito in August, not for November when he would fight Baldomir.

That was when he was also asking for $10 million to fight Cotto.

And it wasn't just Steve and Doug saying Mayweather ducked Margarito...heck, Dan Rafael said it in one of his chats.

No, it was mainly an option of fighting the CHAMP or a fringe contender.
Easy choice, even if the money for the champ were less (which they obviously weren't)

Rafael RARELY says anything negative about Top Rank or HBO. That's not a surprise.

I heard that he interviewed for DiBella's old job.

And again...I ask you to tell the WHOLE story...

After Floyd beat Judah, it was widely known that he wouldn't keep the IBF belt for long because Mark Suarez was his mandatory. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Floyd had mentioned his desire to get out of his contract with Arum PRIOR to the Judah fight and wouldn't you know it...

Immediately afterwards Arum's talking about reserving a date in July (later switched to August) for the Margarito fight etc...it was a matter of days (probably two weeks tops) when Floyd buys out his contract.

Also, during the Judah fight Floyd once again hurt his brittle paw and said he wouldn't be ready for an August match.

Lastly, for you Boxing Rec'ers out there...take a look at the last time Floyd fought twice in four months.

It was all bullshit from Arum and the person who suffered most was Margarito. It's a damn shame that the hate for Floyd is so thick cats can't see how Arum screwed over Margarito's career.

(BTW...Cotto's a Top Rank fighter as well...who has gotten bigger paydays and more HBO dates...Cotto or Margarito? Margarito has had a share of the WBO title as long as Cotto's been a pro...who has Top Rank done more for? Take your time and answer this carefully.)

Top Rank making no effort to make Margarito - Fraud, is a different story depending on who you ask, there are ''rumours'' in the same context ^^^, of Fraud "squirming" and downright refusing in a bitch-fit trance at the mere mention of negotiating a fight with Margarito while he was under the top-rank banner, rumours that suggested this wasn't the first time Fraud slid money under the table to avoid the obligation of challenging his 'stable mate'. These rumours were endorsed with a light of credibility witnessing Fraud's visually disturbed, contradictory outbursts when confronted with extensive media questioning.

I'm not defending Top Rank, but I think Fraud, the narcisstic sociopath, the compulsive liar and shameless shoister, can't possibly have an ounce of credibility either, neither can his maxboxing equivalent "Boxingtalk" the great anti-thesis  .

Oh, and thank you Musze, now I know why Cintron lost the fight, it was because he was inactive and had a hand injury, now it makes more sense,..:nono: this changes everything.

By not acknowledging and placing the vast majority of the blame on Top Rank, you are in fact defending them and shielding them from the blame they deserve.

Mayweather's hand was brought up in the press, I believe it was done first by Ellerbe, but I don't know of any verification of an actual injury.

The whole story is that everybody knew that Mayweather wanted DLH, who was fighting Mayorga the month after he fought Judah.

It's the fight Mayweatehr expressly wanted, and it was easier to get it without Arum/Top Rank involved.

And the problem with that is what??? :dunno:

Now stay with me, because you're REALLY close to getting it here...it'll come to you in a minute...

If Arum knows Mayweather-DLH can be made without him how serious was his $8 million offer for a Margarito fight? Was it a real offer or was it an attempt to save face because he knew Floyd was walking out the door?

Also, I believe Floyd whispered to Roger (before Roger was booted) that he'd hurt his right hand during the Judah fight.
