Irresistible force vs Immovable object fights

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Sep 12, 2017.

  1. This thread is inspired by the Canelo-GGG matchup which I feel falls under this category. What other fights can you list that feature an irresistible force going up against an immovable object?

The first the springs to mind for me is Corrales vs Castillo...and look at how that fight turned out. Corrales was a seek and destroy type fighter and Castillo never took a backward step. The result: Nuclear war.

Foreman vs Frazier was also that type of fight and the result was Nuclear HOLOCAUST! Frazier couldn't take the punches.

Either way the matchups are not boring; there is an explosion.

    Gimme other examples...

Not a nuclear war but a whitewash

  7. Lennox was an immovable object or irresistible force? I'm afraid that you misunderstand the concept here.

  8. Or a "blackwash" as the case may be. lol

Could this be the chin VS punch ideal? Hagler/Hearns ... the iron chin vs the overwhelming punch

  13. No...though close. Hearns had the punch but he was known to box and fight going backwards. This is more about a guy that always advances against another guy that doesn't take a backwards step

Lennox was definitvely an irresistible force.

Edit: fair enough, I thought you meant great punchers. Indeed, with your definiton, Lennox doesn't fit the criteria

Lemieux Golovkin, would fit the bill, but it was a bit of a bore

Prior to the fight, i think a damn good argument could be made for it.

  17. Good example and yes it was surprisingly tame for that clash of styles. Lemieux couldn't get past a) the jab which GGG relied on and b) his own hair.
