The thing is, the same Democrats that will vote for Obama if he gets the nod, will vote for Hillary if she gets the nod. But there are legions of Republicans out there who won't vote for McCain, since he is a Republican in name only, and will instead vote for a 3rd Party, or not vote at all.

I have no political affiliation one way or another, but I won't vote for any of them. I feel it's my duty as an American to vote, so I will most likely pick the independant candidate I think is most qualified, and vote for him\her. It may be 'throwing my vote away', but I think any vote against the 2 Party System is a good vote.

I saw a clip of Obama saying that last night. Really had me scratching my head.

And he's gonna get us out of Iraq?

Who cares, as long as there's 'hope' and 'change' and 'inspiration'!!!!

    Can I get an Amen?

Has nothing to do with it?? That's a little presumptious don't you think? If Obama somehow wins it'll be despite him being a black man, it's definitely not an asset.

    WRONG

    him being black has helped

when the clintons made those racial remarks in SC in started to unite and galvanize the black vote behind him, plus theres alot of people who think its just great that he could make history and vote for him because of the sentiment (hes ssooo inspirational)

being black hasnt hurt at all, its way helped, sure there are some idiots who wont vote for him because hes black, always is, but they are in the minority, id say more people voted for him than against because he was black

just look at how things have played out, youll see im right

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Hillary has an equally damaging quality against her for the highest office in being a woman so one could argue that they cancel each other out to a degree. In the general for the whole shebang it'll be a different picture, add Nader to the mix pulling more democratic votes & we get 4 more years of GOP rule.

Maybe in the US and only partially true.

Lots of blacks were also slave owners as well as descendants in Africa and the tropics.

Ok this is getting blown out of proportion. My apologies if I didn't make myself clear (or tried to hard to make myself clear on a pointless thought  ).

I was only saying that blacks have a lower self esteeem than whites AS A RULE (obviously there are individual cases that are different to the rule) in a response to what CUpey said...and was using the fact that whites (AS A GENRAL RULE) had inherently been on top and blacks their servants until relativeily recently as the reason for thsi inherent disconnect in terms of self esteem. It's a fair point...but people would always find a reason to suggest that I'm being racist or whatever.

That's as far as i wanted to take it, no further.

    Anyway...let's leave that.

If Obama is elected or not i do not believe that it will be because of race.

I support Obama not because he's black (per se) but because he's brilliant.

People Are groups for the most part my young friend.

I visit Chicago a few years ago and was appalled by the differences between the white neighbourhoods and the black neighborhoods. If that is not showcasing "groups" I don't know what is...

people arent groups, they are individuals

the constitution protects our rights as INDIVIDUALS not groups

when you work for groups you dont fix anything, your little example doesnt really help your case imo

why are you acting as if you are some sort of constitutional historian or scholar?

you want to live in a society where everyone looks out for only themselves and fuck everyone else.

classic, cant debunk what i said (which is the truth, the constitution does protect our rights as INDIVIDUALS) so you attack me

everyone should take care of themselves and not depend on the govt and other people to take care of their needs, you want freedom you gotta have the responsibility that comes with it

and i didnt say fuck everyone else, people are charitable and kind, they give

but you shouldnt force people to be charitable, that isnt charity as all, thats forced egalitarianism

the question is, under what authority the federal govt has to implement universal health care or any other big govt program?

unless you can answer this with a real answer then the debate is moot, and you lose, dont bombard me with this "oh you just hate people, arent caring, etc etc" liberal bullshit either

    a real answer

edit: and you ARE a constitutional scholar?

The answer is as simple as your reason for voting for him Sly (if you could ), and don't forget , you have admitted it.

    Because he's black.

You obviously didn't read my posts and the entire context.

I'm not supporting Barack JUST because he's black, but because he's intelligent, charismatic, inpirational, likable, electable, earns the respect of his peers and voters and as a bonus is black(ish).

    "Like I said before"

You didn't hear me supporting Al Sharpton or Alan Keyes and you don't hear me going on about Jesse Jackson.

I happen to have alot of respect for Obama (as I have had for Bill Clinton, Reagan and others in the past)...and the fact that he's black is a bonus....because the world hasn't had a black US president as yet.

Naturally, as a black man, I'd like to see a black president...not denying that...but I wouldn't support a candidate JUST because he's black.

    That's preposterous! :nono:

    That's just fantastic.

Let's not forget he sponsored the Global Poverty Act, he supports amnesty for illegal immigrants, he supports a healthcare system that we can't afford, he will raise taxes, and he won't get us out of Iraq.

But I guess none of that matters, because he's likable, charasmatic and black.
