So if the 'talent pool' of 90s fought in the decade between 2000-2009, doesn't that mean that the talent pool that followed is the one we are seeing now? GGG, Ward, Kovalev, Gonzalex, Loma, Rigo, Donaire etc? Most of these were young and winning Olympic medals on last decade
They were there. But it felt to me they were overshadowed by Mayweather and Pacquiao. Especially Floyd who became a PPV star in 2005 off the Gatti fight. But yes we shouldn't forget those guys. There was definitely talent. But I feel the divisions lacked DEPTH.
The mid 90's to the early 2000's was its own era defined by DLH, Tito, Roy, morales, MAB etc. All of those guys were from the 90's. Some of their notable fights happened in the 2000's but they still belong to "90's". Would you agree that there was an "era" between the time those guys faded and say 2010?
An era in boxing is identified by a decade; years 0 to 9. It's always been that way. Now you're trying to make the word era, in the boxing context, a subjective one. You're just being difficult.
You're being argumentative. It's obvious no one is saying the era of Tito, Roy and DLH was a weak era. We're talking about the era after then. The era that's defined by those guys not being there. Decades are a guideline and that's why all the guys you named are considered 90's fighters even though they fought in 2000.
No dude, consider the thread starter's premise: The original discussion was about the 00s decade. You're changing it up to suit yourself.
The guys you named aren't part of the "2000-2010" era. If they were xplosive wouldn't have said this era is certainly better. I doubt he thinks Keith Thurman Would beat DLH and Tito nor would he pick GGG or Kov over Roy. A fighter that's part of that era came to prominence in that time frame. You saw a chance to jump on your soapbox so you took it out of context.
ok. Ali, Frazier not 70s fighters and Duran, Leonard not 80s fighters according to your criteria. That's cool, just as long as we are consistent.
Ray Leonard fought in the 70's and 80's. Terry Norris fought in the 80's and 90's. Ray Leonard fought Terry Norris. Were they part of the same era? Ali was a fighter from the 60's and Frazier came to prominence around 1970. Their first fight was billed as the champ from the 60's vs the champ of the 70's.
