You mean a contender that has been a pro for six years and had several opportunities to fight for the title but who has never actually found his way in the ring to do it?

And the "intended" effect is simply to respond to someone who's talking the division up into something it's not.

BTW, are we now including Jason Estrada on "win" lists? I didn't get that memo.

Or did you just include just because it happened more recently than 2008?

140 was pretty deep, and got deeper, from 2000 on. It could have been an ATG division if Shane and Floyd had popped up there when the chance presented itself but it was pretty strong nonetheless. Needless to say, a weaker division either side of a strong division will see fighters "drop" up or drop down periodically.

147's Apogee was well passed when 140 was on the rise. No way Hatton would have left 140 to seek greater glories at 147 if Tito and Ike had been doing their thing.

You need strong divisions alongside each other to foster truly great eras.

Well if he could Andre Berto his way to a title he´d do it, unfortunately for Povetkin, his belts are blocked by real fighters. If you lose to them you are a bum.

Berto hasn´t fought anybody either, unless we now count David Estrada, Luis Collazo, Juan Urango and Carlos Quintana. He´s the no.3 in the emerging welterweight division as HutHut always calls it. Next he fights another 140 pounder, no not the best from a weight class below like Wladimir, just some former Golden prospect. :fightme:

So "Free Ikism" has finally taken hold of this board then?

Speaking of him, the last rant I heard from Free Ike, he was saying that Sergio Martinez fights like a pussy (seriously, you can look this up) and always avoids mixing it up. And that Agbeko was useless because Darchinyan was in front of him a whole fight and he didn't hurt him.

Those both turned out to be gems. :wack:

Jason Estrada?? Really?? Stop, please just stop.

Yes, it is THAT bad. And you are proving it by listing Estrada as a significant win. And I thought you said Solis was a "greenhorn", but now he's a contender again? Back from flop to flip again, I see.

He was made a mandatory contender. Not by me. I think, even by modern standards, in any division, that 17 fights is by no means a lot.

Estrada is a good test for any 17-0 < fighter. Better than Dennis Bahktov, for sure.
