And once again, if the opposite was true, traditional kind of skills were all that mattered and heavywweights now were worse than ever, then we should have bunch of lt. heavyweights taking over. After all, there have been lt.heavies competing at the top of the division in every decade. Now we had Toney who had one decision victory over a top-10 challenger (later overruled) and who had roided himself to be a heavyweight

Truth is, you don't have a light heavy or cruiser currently fighting that belongs in the same ring with Joe Louis.

Personally I do subscribe to the addage that a good big fighter beats a great smaller fighter. Monsters like Lewis and Wlad have too great a size advantage for Joe Louis to beat them no matter what the skill advantage might be.

But then I look at how competitive Holyfield was against Lewis, and I begin to think a little differently.

It has to do with how one responds to an opponent with stepping and slipping. Max Bauer arguably killed two men with his right hand... how many did Tyson kill?

Faulty faulty epistemology. We don't have "a bunch of it" (your description) because the institutions in boxing that brought fighters up with skills are dissapearing. Also there is competition for the best and brightest who would be at the top of the division including MMA and other sports.

Why be a heavyweight when you can play basketball and make as much money and keep your faculties in tact?
