How so? No, he didn't get shut out, or ran out of the ring. But do you honestly believe he'll ever beat Joe? Or that there will be any demand for a rematch -against Joe or Bute?
i agree with jake. bika might have won the contender, but he's still a loser against top oppostion. he'd be a suitable comeback opponent for kessler. he's somewhat of a ben tackie of the super middle division
which is why the premise of the contender is REEDtarded. You have a bunch of guys who'd never deserve a title shot rubbing up with guys who were losers when they finally stepped up.
Who said anything about a demand for a rematch? Thats quite a different thing to deserving to be in there in the first place, mate.
You guys are being too hard on the kid. Give him credit, he won the greatest ESPN fight in 26 years last night since Caveman Lee KO'd John LoCicero. He earned his money the hard way last night.
Exactly. He won a lot of fans last night and because of it, boxing made the evening news in my country for the first time in a LONG time. And when it's a guy like Sakio Bika, who's still learning the simple things about boxing, you just can't feel bad about any of it. It was a great result for boxing.
Bika is strong, very good and fun to watch when someone stays in front of him, but when someone box him ... ugH
no, i was saying based on how the actual fights played out, not that he ever deserved the fights in the first place. c'mon you and I were two of the few that actually defended his getting a shot at Calzaghe.
Who's being hard on him? The fight was fun as hell. But results are results - he's already proven that he can't beat two of the best three present day super middleweights, and I'm not sure anyone will favor him over Kessler, either. I gave him his full respect, said it was a fun fight and that I was dead wrong in my prediction. He won the fight, and $750,000 as a result. Isn't that reward enough?
Bika should have lost two points when he hit Codrington after he was already down in the first round.
I agree. The possibility exists that knowing he had one or two additional points in the bank might have given Codrington more mental toughness, though. He seemed discouraged by the end of the fight. Of course, it also may have encouraged Bika to keep going for the KO with the same result.
It's possible, but I suspect the latter of your suggestions would have been more likely. If he thought he was well behind on points, Sakio would have been much more likely to throw those looping bombs. I'm not sure if Coddrington was lacking 'mental toughness', per se. I just though that the guy was hurting. He took a hell of a lot of flush, hard shots. That'll deflate any fighter, points in the bank or no. A really enjoyable fight, though- you don't see many like that very often... :cheer: MTF
