Chris Byrd holds a 117-111 win against Fres Oquendo, yet the tape shows a completely different fight. Would you say Byrd dominated Oquendo as you're saying Lamotta fought close with Robinson?

It's funny how you mention Byrd Vs Oquendo ... If you look at our situation here , I'm the guy that would be saying it was a very close fight and could have gone either way. You are the guy saying that Byrd owned Oquendo because of the 117-111 scorecard ...

i think he meant to say that people assume robinson vs. lamotta was close based on what the scores were or what they read. he was using oqueno-byrd as an example trying to say that oquendo won the fight, but people who didnt see the fight will look back on the scores and assume that byrd easily won.

 

Yes and he is assuming Robinson easily won because Jake only has 1 real victory on paper ..

 

no way to tell really how close those robinson/lamotta fights were. i've only seen the last fight and there were moments where lamotta was able to close the gap and do some damage on the inside.

in robinson's biography, lamotta is mentioned as his toughest opponent. Lamotta also knocked him down in their 3rd or 4th fight.

The example showed that actual scores aren't exactly perfect representations of how a fight transpired, having actually seen the fight is the only way to know for sure.
