Fightbeat used to be my favorite place on the net. the knowledge was deep. Guys like Jake and Donny always had the good scoop on shit. Now I spend more time in the MMA forum than I do in general discussion. I don't know what all the problems are and really don't care. The site is thinning out in numbers, though, no denying that.
change the mods, they're ruining everything :flip: also, i don't know what the fuck is jeff talking about, I remember people being respectful toward him in his threads.
its people like you that have made this forum so good for so long. We used to have alot of people who read the boards, posting once in a blue moon, but were often around for a big fight or for particular topics. We used to have people from other sites like Eaner and such to post alot and contribute some fanfare. its gone now, and there is one singular person to blame, and it sucks. This place still has alot of the old good posters, and has done well getting rid of some of the shitty decisions and people who didn't belong in authority. I wish the radio show would come back, that SD would have a more active roll here, and that alot of the people who have been alienated would return, but as long as this place is the way it always was, that won't happen.
The site itself is fine, it's the forum that's killing itself. I would be no major issue for me to kill the forum. To have ignorant people on the site led by other ignorant people doesn't make sense on any level. Cupey
:notallthere: wasnt the site built around the forum? the forums started going downhill when Dubblechin got banned
Maybe it had to do with your shit articles abour Roberto Duran and how people would just laugh at them because it was a joke? Cupey
The Radio show is coming back very soon. Also, I'm not suggesting we dance around boxers or special members. But certainly we need to understand that they are taking time of out of their busy schedules to talk with us and share their thoughts. But some people think everything is a joke and don't know when to lay off. I'm not so worried about things because I know I have a good crew for the forums to run things. There are times when things need to change and we'll just have to work things out. The site as a whole is slowly recovering and I think with some of the suggested improvements we will continue to move forward and onwards. Regarding any disagreements with past members. These things happen. Not everyone can get along. But a site should be held together by one or two people. It's funny how people mention Karl but when he's here he gets bashed. Ridiculous. I've spoken to Mark Dodge and he's simply a busy guy with his life. I left those things in the past. We all need to just pressing forward and learning from our mistakes. Cupey
name one such piece. And with the stuff thats posted now, you can't possibly be calling something I did a joke, when ive got e-mails stored from people commending me on them
Same thing happened with Merchant over at Boxing Fanatics. I can only assume posters feel the need to abuse these people out of some sort of transmuted feeling of envy. Like when a star athlete kid joins a new school the existing kids will feel the need to rip into them to prove that they don't feel envious or threatened, when in actual fact they only prove just that. Pretty fucking pathetic, these people might have really contributed something to these forums.
obviously, my stuff must have been terrible, and people saying Sultan Ibragimov will win this weekend because he's a quick southpaw which will trouble Wlad, or "Jermaine Taylor beat Hopkins because he was training for a 15 round fight" Is great material. Thank god our homepage is so good. I'm sure its just the forum members that are driving people away. After all, if I were an ex-co owner who said "I'll come back when "other co-owner" is gone" that must've meant die hard forum people like myself are to blame for our lack of relevance/ the scent of filth on the air here. Surely appointing people like Slystaff and Hegman to notable posts of authority was not at all responsible for the lack of credibility around here. Surely your unfounded shots at me through the years are for the better, I'm merely a loudmouth and you have people practically begging you to come on here... just doesn't add up
Jeff was good, and its always nice to see Otis Griffin on here, even though I haven't seen him in awhile. We do need more profesional posters, I say bring back Mike and Callie:bears:
I did this thing ---> ":: " ,.. because it didn't make sense to me, "You'll all be laughing alone" ??... As far as the forum dwindling in numbers is concerned, that is excellent by me, I'd prefer a smallish close-knit orgy. On gigantic forums, with thousands of active members, it becomes near IMPOSSIBLE to post :nono: !, ie- Sherdog. In my opinion, the forums are in thier best shape to date, the most resilient characters will never die, it SHOULD be survival of the fittest, I'd also make moderation non-existant, (apart from deliberate thread flooding, and child pornography)........:crafty: let us all go back to the jungle, and see what happens :cheer: .
I think that is a very good point. However, I'm not sure that it's about posters feeling intimidated or taking it too "seriously". I just think they believe it is not worth the effort of slogging through the trash to get to the occasional golden nugget of civil, intelligent conversation. It's not about not wanting "criticism" - it's about making conversations serious and constructive. You can deliver criticism and still have an intelligent discussion; those two are not mutually exclusive. Some people are willing to stay, others who don't think the effort is worth the time are not. You have to naturally expect that there will be more of the latter than the former...especially if they are in the boxing game for their livelihood and not wannabes like us. :: Peace.
Cupey With respect and all, this is a very valid point. You can't on the one hand call the forums a load of sh*t and then publish articles like the two Jaws mentions here. These are the last two things I've read this week from this site and they are both APPALLING. Absolutely shocking, especially the Jermain Taylor article, which was one of the most slanted and biased 'fighter bashings' I've ever read. I'm not even a fan of Jermain, but I could list ten pieces of complete garbage written about/against him from that article alone, none of which I'd wager come from any kind of reliable or informed source. Repeat- you can't on the one hand moan about the forums 'bashing' fighters then post an article talking about how much of a sh*t MW Champion Taylor was/is because he didn't have the 'mystique' of other past champions or that he is similar to Jeff Lacy or that he beat Hopkins because Hopkins 'forgot' that he was fighting a 12 rounder, not a 15 rounder etc... :: The forums here are quite quiet at the minute, but that might be simply because there isn't a great deal happening at the minute. Prior to the Hatton-Mayweather fight, this forum was heaving if memory serves. Put simply, when there are few 'big' fights taking place, a boxing forum will only really attract the hardcore boxing fan and the bored internet troll. If Fightbeat is struggling it seems bizarre in the extreme to launch an attack on the few people still here and still contributing. Don't you think you may be risking alienating folk a tad? MTF Addendum Also, starting threads entitled 'Clazaghe is a champion etc' and starting off with 'Hopkins was in PEEK form' is hardly going to make the thread more attractive to newcomers, are they? These are basic grammatical errors and simply shouldn't be there...
There were another forty or so potential 'sig' posts in that thread, so I hope you feel very honoured Mr. Mustard... ::
Well, not that honoured, come to think of it. :dunno: I just think you love my wacky sense of humour.
