Doesn't show a plodding tendency necessarily, my point is more that Chavez doesn't have a history of doing great against fast guys, being these are the 2 fastest guys he fought.
The topic ... Ali vs. Tyson poster 1: Tyson didn't hit that hard poster 2: Trevor Berbick had never been down before Tyson annihilated him poster 1: It's stupid to compare Berbick to Ali poster 2: shut the fuck up
there's more to this than just speed... I'd say both of these guys were faster than Pacquiao anyway and they both in styles totally different than his They have little if anything in common with Pacquaio... Taylor was a shoeshiner, lots of combinations and volume forcing his opponent to pick his spots and try and punch through the Hurricane... Whitaker was well, Whitaker... Whitaker was left handed so he has that in common with the Pac Man but other than that, they couldn't be more different... Pacquaio isn't a shoeshiner at all, he looks to throw hard shots and sit down on them
Definitely no comparison with Whitaker, completely different style and attitude in the ring. Taylor though? I'd say there is a basic comparison, in that they have both been known to overwhelm opponents with speedy combinations. Pacquiao is more of a patient boxer type now, but look at the Barrera fight and others of that era. He was like a Tazmanian Devil, whizzing around the ring overwhelming opponents with non stop attacks and unpredictable movement. Pacquiao's defense has always been his offense. He throws so many shots from weird angles, fast, hard shots, that guys just clam up. It reduces their output and shuts them down, when they get hit with that many fast, hard punches they don't see coming. The only person who's been able to consistently overcome that is Marquez, with his strange, aggressive, counterpunching style.
what this has to do with what we were just talking about, I have no idea, but... He isn't a plodder, but he is definitely stiff, always has been... There isn't a lot of flow or rhythm with Cotto's offense... Doesn't mean he isn't a good fighter, just a pretty obvious thing about him... he doesn't look "natural", especially when punching
