Jones eats right hands and craps himself. I just saw the KO video......highly undignified exit for the guy, I think he really ought have packed in after Calzaghe- if not sooner. Such is how it is though. I dont think Dawson can emulate him and it may be a generation or two before we have another one like Jones. As it happens, the 1-4-7 of 1997 isn't even close to being replicated, and that was 15 years ago.
Just checked out the Btalk page, first page has Jones spouting off, Hopkins interview, and Tarver responding to Toney...its like a time warp from 2004 or so. They should all just shuffle off into the sunset. Seriously though, thats pretty pathetic from Jones, guess he wants to play out the string a little longer. I wonder if he's worked out how many neurons he can further afford to lose.
Country bumpkins don't need a lot of brain. It really is sick watching him get KTFO, though. The Tarver one was fine, caught by a big shot on the chin, it happens. But the last two, swats on the side of the head with sickening effects.
The ugliest moment of that fight is when the Kangaroo mouths off with "when you beat a legend, you become a legend" Well...when you run your mouth, you become a bullshitter.
The Australian said them too, I dont know the name of your Broadcaster however. Then again, when you are sounding like Bernard Hopkins, you know you are in trouble. Eitherways, I disagree with the sentiment. Jones is shot, and Danny Green is NO LEGEND
Well, at least he was able to KO old Jones, when given a chance. When Ukranian Coward was given the opportunity to KO an old legend, he got stopped in 6 rounds.
Obviously. Im just telling you how the fight was sold over here and those were the words used by Hopkins (besides his usual drivel) in the hype show. I guess they stuck.
I think this is the link............I can imagine how the fight was sold in Australia, which probably only ranks slightly behind the United Kingdom in the ability of its press-corps to see the best of its home-talent and the worst of the {foreign} opposition. They think Kostya was the "greatest" 140lbr of all time, FFS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oud8CxDuUOg
People think lots of things. Its the nature of them. On the subject of Tszyu? Rankings are way too much of a cluster fuck to lose too much time worrying about what someone else comes up with. That said, there were not many 140 pounders better, IMO. In large because the division historically has been weak, not to mention its still in its infancy.
Quite possibly. Aussie commentators and Brit commentators are still retards, and, just to show I am not being Partisan, the fucking Irish are the WORST. They are criminally bad. They are actually so shit it puts my blood pressure up. I actually, get this...I fucking hate them, in the criminal sense of the word. Danny Green plutzed in his biggest fight. Ironically, the commentators were saying that Jones-Green was the biggest moment in Australian Boxing History. I mean, please. Fench? Harding? The fucking Green vs Retardo Mundine fight itself which had people looking in windows of people who were looking in windows of people who had the fight? Jack Johnson vs Tommy Burns? Fuck.....Aussie boxing has had bigger moments than Green-Jones. These commentators will say....anything.
blah, it's been around a long time, although perhaps you are right about it being historically weak (wiki): The light welterweight class (also called junior welterweight or super lightweight) is a weight division in professional boxing that has a limit of 63.5 kg or 140 pounds. The first champion of this weight class was Pinky Mitchell in 1926, though he was only awarded his championship by a vote of the readers of the Boxing Blade magazine. There was not widespread acceptance of this new weight division in its early years, and the New York State Athletic Commission withdrew recognition of it in 1930. The National Boxing Association continued to recognize it until its champion, Barney Ross relinquished the title in 1935 to concentrate on regaining the welterweight championship. A few commissions recognized bouts in the 1940s as being for the light welterweight title, but the modern beginnings of this championship date from 1959 when Carlos Ortiz won the vacant title with a victory over Kenny Lane. Both the WBA and WBC recognized the same champions until 1967, when the WBC stripped Paul Fuji of the title and matched Pedro Adigue and Adolph Pruitt for their version of the championship. Adigue won a fifteen round decision. The International Boxing Federation recognized Aaron Pryor as its first champion in 1984.
You can't be a legend by cheating. :nono: Green is a disgrace to boxing!!! This is more Heinous than the Luis Resto incident!!!
In fact, Resto should be pardoned.....and Green should be re-named Resto, with Resto assuming the title "Daniel Verde".
Jones will end up being seriously injured if he does not retire, it is sad to see a former great fighter fighting on when he is long past it......the only person who cannot see this is Roy himself.
Only Evander ISN'T Imitating a Basketball & Getting BOUNCED Off the Canvas by Guys that COULDN'T Carry his Jock in his Prime... REED:shit:
No, but he is getting beaten by them nonetheless. Roy really needs to quit.....I understand he has 2 sons, twins....but apart from that he owns ranches and bloodstock so he should be sorted for cash. There should be some sort of motion from within the game, where States simply refuse to sanction the guy.
SOUNDS Good, Unfortunately there's ALWAYS States like Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, etc., w/CORRUPT &/or NON-EXISTENT Boxing Commissions.... REED:hammert:
Well, maybe you could get total bums that cannot hurt the guy, and make matches for him then! Seriously, the guy is the next Greg Page if he isn't saved from himself. Its only a matter of time before some totally unknown and supposedly safe opponent turns out to be nothing of the sort. Against Green....Roy was facing a legit hitter. If he is going to fight on, it needs to be against the 2nd coming of Howard Davis Jr.
Then he doesn't have any fight left in him, really. I dont think Roy ever had the greatest chin. Roys body type does not suggest innate, natural strength in the resistance sense of the word. Where his skull meets his face is very thin, and Roys neck {especially at the rear base of his skull} is also very slender. Roy is stripped out for the 1/4 mile, he aint no demolition derby machine. Roy always had that gorgeous, fast muscle......but he never looked like you could wrap a lead pipe around his head and have him walk away unharmed....he was a finely tuned speed merchant with plenty of pop, but Roys never went into combat wearing heavy armour, barring maybe his abs......I think he was always good for a chinning, we had to wait for him to slow down for it to happen. And now that he has been skulled, its not getting any better.
