holyfield had a credible win over mercer sandwiched between the third bowe fight and the tyson fight. it was the czyz bout that caused most to think holyfield was fodder. my guess is if you check the chronology a few of those illegitimate children were conceived circa the czyz training camp.

 

Yeah, but Tyson was always ridiculously overhyped. Honestly though, I wasn't following the sport back then nearly on the level that I do now since I was away at jr college for a quarter.

 

This is correct. Even The Ring picked Tyson in one round and most people actually feared for Holyfield's health. This was because in the Bowe fight it looked like something was really wrong with him (he lost all his strength in the fifth round which made Foreman to get up from his seat and scream for stoppage9. Even though Holyfield came back to floor Bowe in the fight, that and his strugging performance against Czyz made people think he was over. The mentioned Mercer fight happened before Bowe fight.
