Disagree...but he aint losing to Kirkland Laing in 100 fights either, even if he ate bad shellfish....dunno if I make my point clear
Transpose yourself 20 years from now & into the mind of some younger person who didn't get to follow the ebbs and flows of his career. 'Juan Manual Marquez'. Went 0-1-2 with Manny Pacquaio, seems to have been his Ken Norton, apparently. I saw the first fight it was a good match, but Pac shoulda won. Beat Gainer, Past Prime Barrera, Past Prime Casamayor, Medina and some lightweight guys called Katsidis and Juan Diaz, who didn't amount to anything. Mayweather spanked him, easy, so he obviously wasn't elite. Lost to Freddie Norwood and some guy called Chris John.' I wonder if this future guy will regard him as an ATG. At that point, he'll be on an the same playing field as you have nearly everybody who fought before about 1992.
Give me a fucking break m'man. Are you trying to imply that I haven't followed the careers on any fighter pre- 1992?
Im implying that you don't give them the proper regard you give contemporary fighters whos careers you follow properly. If a fictional 1970s Bernard Hopkins had lost twice to Jermain Taylor or a 60s Marquez had losses to Norwood, John & failed to beat Pac in 3 fights you'd think way less highly of both.
That's simply not true. I see it the other way around actualy m'man. Had Hopkins existed in the 70s, his losses to Jermaine Taylor at the end of his 20 defense streak (and his 30s) would be fogiven and his subsequent wins at 175 would solidify his greatness in the minds of those who are driven by nostalgia.
Well, he never fought at the weight prior to being "old as fuck" (he was a late bloomer, much later than Chavez, if we are being honest, but whatever) You want to just speculate that he'd be this awesome 130 pounder at 27 when you've got nothing to go on? Because he'd better be awesome if he's getting in there with 130 Chavez
Those last 4 names constitute an ALL-TIME GREAT?? are you fucking kidding? He DID NOT BEAT Pacquaio... He's 0-2-1... This isn't Roy Jones in the olympics, Whitaker against Chavez/Ramirez, it isn't a universally accepted highway robbery... it's 3 fights, two of which are debateable... the first one is NOT... if you scored that fight for Marquez, you're nuts He BARELY beat a fading Barrera Who exactly didn't beat Medina? What good featherweight failed to beat Manuel Medina? DERRICK GAINER??? Really? Yeah, let's add Kevin Kelley to the "ALL-TIME GREAT" List while we are at it Marquez is a terrific fighter and he's had a terrific career, but he's no all-time great... not by fucking MILES... I have never seen a guy get so much credit for what is essentially a GOOD resume
I like JMM, he's a good fighter, game and a fine mechanic in the ring... but the way he is talked about around here is fucking crazy
chavez had hard fights with guys at 130 lbs who were not as good as marquez. in fact, chavez never defeated a 130lber as good as marquez.
Marquez lost fights to guys who would have been cannon fodder for Chavez... I think Rocky Lockridge beats up the same Barrera that JMM just managed to decision, frankly I could see Rocky Lockridge beating Marquez, as well
Do you ever contribute anything but posts full of hot air that exist only to forward your various agendas?
Poor Stafford...I almost feel bad for you..almost. It must suck to be such a complete windbag and post endlessly with zero to back up any of it.
