The Lightweight champ already fought this Month. His name is Nate Campbell he beat the man Juan Diaz.
I have a hard time calling Casamayor the champion of anything after his last fight. Maybe the champion of bad decisions?
Muhammad Ali had a bunch of bad decisions in his later years, but he was the recognized champion until he lost a decision to Leon Spinks. As I said earlier in the thread, there is over 100 years worth of world champions who have held on to their belts through bad decisions. That's probably the major downside of a judged sport.
Maybe so but the truth is there are a lot of people who don't recognize Casamyaor as the champion and I can't blame them. I watched him clearly lose his last fight to a guy who isn't that good. The fact that he got a gift don;t change that.
I know, that's why I made the thread. It's funny how hard it is to get an obvious point across sometimes.
Thursday I am going to Savannah Gym tomorrow morning to see Chris Henry spar, and if Juan is there I will get some comments from him and share them with you all here. Karl
Fuck Juan "Default" Diaz! And I say default because the chubby bastard only became "the man" at 135 after Castillo & Chico moved up.
Their rules, which they pick and chose how to and when to apply them....and when to change them to suit their own purposes.I have ZERO faith in Ring titles.
I'm not talking about Ring titles. Is there a case where a weight issue like Corrales/Casamayor was handled differently? I thought that was a pretty consistent rule?
All of this is just one of the reasons why I hope, nay PRAY that Michael Katsidis punches Casa clean into the ringside announcers on Saturday. Not only will this put an end to the reign of a champion who, when all is said and done, shouldn't even be a champion after his last effort, and just as importantly I have no doubt whatsoever that Kats and Campbell would fight each other in someone's backyard if the opportunity arose, putting an end to speculation. People wonder why I have such an interest in unification bouts. This is why. There might well be too many baubles out there, some more 'valuable' than others, but when a guy goes out and starts cleaning house, it makes: a. Things so much easier to gauge in any given division. b. The standing of the fighter going about this sort of business rises accordingly. War Katsidis!! MTF
Corrales getting KTFO out, not making weight for his rematch with Casamayor...well, that kind of ruins any claim he had, IMO. The title is vacant. Casamayor didn't beat a lightweight champion to become one.
I ignored you the first time, and I'm ignoring you now, you grumpy, humourless bastard...:tease: Besides, I'll get bored of it in a week and will change it then more than likely. Pop a valium, my Aussie, NUFC supporting brethren, and leave my sig alone...
It's too fucken long. I hate having to scroll down for a few days, just to read the next post after yours.
In a subjective sport as boxing is, no one should limit his outlook in defining a champion, the best way to go is to see whos number 1 and it's definitively Campbell right now.
The boxing championship mess really isn't that hard to figure out except for the people who bury there heads in the sand about it....like 90% of the people who post here
Fuck the ring magazine and that linear bullshit. I think someone on any division that is at any time crowned "the" champion has to continue to show he is the man in the division. Someone like Casamayor who spent almost a year inactive and got a horrible gift decision should not be considered the champion at 135 I don't care who he beat once upon a time to get that tittle. It means shit now. Diaz did enough to stand out as the man at 135. Campbell beating him makes him now the man to beat. opcorn:
I agree...and added to that, Casamayor didn't even beat a lightweight to get this mythical crown. He's a fraud, and that title is VACANT.
