It was a good stoppage, just to put the viewers out of their misery. Absolutely pathetic perfomance by Holt, who did virtually nothing for six rounds, until he landed the 1-2 combination that hurt and dropped Torres. Afterwards Holt shortly seized control of the nothingness in the ring, until Torres landed a big right hand to change the momentum of nothingness back in his favour. It was run and grab from Holt in a performance that would have made Zahir Raheem proud. The fact that Holt was apparently ahead by 7 points on one card and overall is disgusting. He did next to nothing, being the challenger on foreign soil. I figured Torres must have been behind, because he really started to let his hands go in round 11 and went after Holt. Torres hurt and knocked him down with a big right hand, Holt started to run and grab again, got hurt again imho, and ran away again. Another flurry by Torres and Rodriguez stops the fight after Holt hadn´t thrown anything back for at least 30-45 seconds. I can see why Holt complains, since he never throws punches, but to a ref, it´s a clear signal of a fighter that is defenseless/not fighting back. Holt should be happy, if that fight had been on American TV, he´d be blacked out like Zahir Raheem. Viva Ricardo Torres. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Are you sure you saw the fight? Nobody else on hand or who watched it saw things that way. Not to mention that it was a left hook that put Holt on the canvas (or at least to the point where it was just the ropes holding him up). Based on the few clips that were made available, it sounds like Holt left out quite a bit in his own version of what happened. But your post is the exact opposite extreme.
So who was really winning the fight? Being that it was Torres' hometown, surely Holt must have been ahead, for him to be ahead on the scorecards? :dunno: Holt was saying he'd need a KO to get a draw etc, yet he was actually ahead on the cards? Holt sounds like a whining little bitch to be honest. That's all part and parcel if fighting in another guy's hometown, and the fact is, he was ahead on the cards, so he didn't have it that bad at all, and there can't have been much underhand business going on.
From those I know who were on hand or saw the fight, all had Holt winning by a comfortable margin. But yeah, I don't disagree with what you say about Holt. Keith Idec wrote a very detailed recap of the fight, but only mentioned some of the stuff that Holt is claiming happened.
Yes, I´m sorry it was a lefthook. Otherwise both fighters did next to nothing for the majority of the rounds. I don´t see how Holt should win a world title in the champions backyard for not fighting. This is exactly what happens, when an aggressiv fighter doesn´t react to the negative style of a counterpuncher. I had no probelm with the close scorecards. Holt certainly wasn´t winning by seven points. Holt was hit with a bit of paper or a empty beer beaker in the 6th, when he was in the neutral corner as Torres was given the count. In the 11th round Holt was clearly hurt, running, holding and NOT throwing back, yes he threw a punch the moment Rodriguez stepped in, but that was basically the ONLY punch. During the 11th round, some beer or water was spilled into the ring, but no objects. Edwin Valero had it far worse against Mosquera, but he fought through it like a man, and took the world title away from Mosquera. Holt fought like a girl and cried like a baby afterwards.
yah, that part i didn't have a huge problem with. The problem with the ending was that he was alert enough to believe it was a premature stoppage, but the punch he threw came as Rodriguez was breaking them up, a clear indication that he was on survival mode, not punching back until the incoming stopped. If a rematch is mandated, it will be on the strength of Rodriguez exuding poor judgment. The WBO supervisor fucked up by going on record in disagreeing with Rodriguez over maintaining the slippery ring, even if he tried to walk sideways immediately thereafter. But I can't see one being ordered solely based on the ending, because it can be argued either way as to how coherent Holt was at the time of (and seconds before) the stoppage, in which case a referee's judgment call has to be honored.
I don´t think the ring was really slippery, besides the flooded Torres corner, which was a result of Torres corner buying their man some time between rounds six and seven. If Holt had wet shoes, it probably came from that corner, rather than the whole ring being slippery. At least in the main event nothing was thrown into the ring until the 11th round and I agree with Rodriguez´ judgement to let the fight go at this point. You cannot interrupt the bout to caution the crowd from spilling some beer, when one fighter is on the verge of being stopped.
Honestly Kendal was OUT on His Feet, after that short right he was a gonner if the ref doesn't step in Torres puts him through the ropes. I was surprised when torres got up when he was Knocked dowen i thought he was KTFO there for a minute. http://www.canalcaracol.com/sala_videos.asp?hid_id=/videos/Deportes/Boxeo/Infogeneral/20907mochuelotorres.wmv&id=15686&subseccion=135&seccion=44&zona=1#
didnt look like a terrible stoppage to me, but i'm curious to see the whole fight and see what happened.
