Neither guy are very good to be honest and to tell the truth...there's no way a guy like Khan could have fought many times in a year...unless you want to see him KO'd at least three times annually. I don't think the guy should retire...it's not unlike the criticism Ortiz received after his broken jaw...he's what...26? The problem (I think) mkost guys have is how Khan was built up to be a star...to have a career like Oscar or Mayweather or Jones...that kind of thing. He received the star treatment before putting in the work. I honestly didn't think Khan looked that good prior to getting clipped. I think too much is made of the flashy punches, but there are so many deficiencies eventually he's going to get popped unless he's in with a light hitter. Thus, he has to be matched carefully. Retire? No. Fight a lower level of guys...yes. The problem is...once you're making nearly a million per fight it's difficult to drop down to fighting for a quarter of that. That's what his problem is.
When you have lost three fights in less than thirty, in borderline elite company, and two have been by absolutely brutal KO, retirement is a realistic option. The fact that you and a few 'casuals' enjoyed watching Khan battered senseless is hardly an engaging reason to fight on. MTF
Instead of retiring, then, he should refocus on becoming fodder for up and coming fighters or try fighting at domestic level instead? Aye, that's a sensible idea. MTF :notallthere:
I have no problem with it. I'm not a Khan fan. I'm telling you...the only real option he has (for a big fight) is to beat a few lower level guys...hope no one beats Kell Brook then make that fight in England. I'm telling you now...if he fights let's say...Ortiz...Ortiz knocks him the fuck out. He could be winning 7 consecutive rounds then in a flash the fight is over.
Nobody wants to see Khan matched against lower level opposition where he will probably win comfortably time after time. That would become boring. The truth is he's been found out.
Precisely. Could he move up to 147 and beat Kelly Brook? I think he could, because Brook is pish. But if he does, and gets another couple of wins against crap like Gavin Rees or some other plodders, he'll start talking about title fights again and we end up back here, with him dicing with the A&E ward every time he fights someone with a bit of a dig. Utterly pointless. MTF
The punch on Saturday wasn't even a temple punch, or a clean shot to the jaw. It was essentially a shot to the neck and it turned him into Bambi on ice. You simply cannot expect to prosper at world level if that is how you react to such a punch. He has been hurt many times, dropped many times and brutally sparked twice. How long before his bravery gets him seriously injured? MTF
Yes,and to make it worse, he would become a sort of by-word for semi-retired puffery. He'd basically be the Joey Gamache of Bolton, a protected commodity that everyone knew was protected, and why. He'd continue to earn and would recoup some of his confidence and dignity, but underneath it all we would all know he was a china-chin who tasted more canvas than Van Gogh's apprentice. Prior to last Saturday, Khan was a Wild-Card fighter who claim to have only one legitimate defeat and who could also claim to be a world-class fighter. Now he's just another fella.
Which is why he should retire. Who in their right mind sensibly advises a former unified world champion, fighting in the US on HBO and Sky; "Here's the next steps lad. We'll match you with some complete shite, some domestic type guys- you know, the ones you racked up a 17-0 record against years ago (albeit that some of them dropped you and one broke your jaw)- then hope that Brook doesn't lose so that we can fight him....yeah, I know that Brook is shite and nearly lost to some cannon-fodder last time out and has no fan base and that the fight will be worth peanuts compared to what you have been earning for the last four years, but if we beat him, then...well...fuck knows. I suppose we try and get more title shots and hope you don't get badly fucked up. Again." Or, he can retire. MTF
He is brave and seeks to compensate for the trouble he is in by getting into even more of it. Haye did hurt Valuev with a similar neck-shot. The finisher was high on the head, classic wobble territory {Chuvalo even stopped Quarry with a temple shot} it really does induce discombobulation. I just think he's plum out of options. He's not as hard as Wlad, or as smart, or as "Big" and so he cannot reinvent himself. He should walk away. Everyone will be looking for his chin and he's too limited/dumb to stop them finding it.
You are right- he is (too) brave and he responds to being hurt by trading. Thick as mince and ridiculous for a guy with no chin. 'Out of options' sums him up perfectly. MTF
Pretty much. Albeit that Haye is a harder man than Khan, Haye has the same outlook, thats why he only takes lucrative fights, he knows he has as much chance of losing to Povetkin or the like as he does to Wlad, so he avoids fights, its part of what his Cruiserweight Career was all about, to allow him to "move up" and thus avoid a lot of fights. Khan can't do that now, he's got no leverage, no ticket to the top where he can get knocked out for £4m a pop. He stands as much chance of being blown out in the Telford Bingo Hall vs Joe Schmoe as he does of winning a major title fight in Vegas. 5 Wins over the Kell Brooks or Gavin Rees of this world would get him back to the big-time, but he's as likely to lose those fights as win them. Thats why the Barrera fight was a wonderful bit of matchmaking by Werren, it was the sort of thing to erase the stench of the Prescott loss and get him into Title contention with absolutely fuck all risk. Problem is, he can't do that anymore. 5 fights vs Kell Brook, Gavin Rees, Denis Shafikov, Mathysse or even Demarcus Corley probably sees him get stopped at least once. He's got no more Olympic Medal or Barrera fights to clear the path for him. He's going to have to fight hungry dogs for his title shot and he's going to get beaten again.
Let me know when he wins a British title in 9 fights, or a European title in 13 fights, or an Olympic gold, you know...in fact, let me know when he wins something. Anything. Cookys Cousin destroys that kid. Michael Watson rates DeGale very highly.
Fraudley won a gold medal. We all saw how that panned out in the pro-ranks  He could win the British title now if he (Eubanks Jr) felt like it. The European title? And, with the best will in the world, and as a huge fan of the man, Watson is actually brain damaged... MTF
He would be favourite against Gay Brook, who would get destroyed by Berto. Isn't Berto the IBF 147 champ and they may face each other next? Anyway, Gay Brook was very close to losing his last fight against scrub Carson Jones and would have real trouble against Khan.
I honestly don't think so. I predict he won't achieve as much as Khan has thus far. For all his flaws, I think Khan is a more effective fighter at world level.
Of course you are right, but to expect anything else around here would be naive. Assuming Khan continues his career, it is time to shift into full boxer mode and protect the chin and quit going for knockouts. And see if it works. It might not. The guy Khan reminds me of (and someone else also said this) is Terry Norris. Norris continued to hang out in the p4p top 10 despite his horrid chin. Khan has similar talent.
MiKe you have officially gone full retard. Khan doesn't have a fraction of the talent Norris had. And Norris actually had SKILLS. Khan has none. Literally ALL he has is handspeed. That's IT.
