WRONG Corrales vs Castillo I. I saw Gatti-Ward I live and I said at the time it was a glorified club fight. Corrales and Castillo I shits on that fight from start to finish. The Gatti-Ward trilogy is the most overrated series of fights I've seen.
I thought the every day sports fan talked way more about Gatti/Ward than Corrales/Castillo. In my experience they did.
Gatti vs Ward were some good fights. I don't care what was at stake or not at stake, a good fight is a good fight. Titles on the line don't make a fight better.
Huh? No one is suggesting titles being at stake make anything better, I think mikE is literally the only person on this site to give a shit about titles. Most of are are saying Gatti Vs Ward is inferior to other famous brutal, exciting fights as the skill level was not up there with the best of them. Good, exciting fight, but the sub par skill level means it doesn't really have much watchability. Titles or whatever being at stake doesn't factor into the equation.
Corrales-Castillo was on Showtime. Gatti-Ward was on HBO. More people naturally have, and watch HBO more than Showtime. So I do think Gatti-Ward was more talked about. Plus, let's be honest, it was between two white guys. As for the actual fights though, Corrales-Castillo 1 was a better fight by ten miles and anyone who thinks differently is a tard. Corrales-Castillo 1 was arguably the best fight of all time.
I watched both live (as in as they happened) and Corrales vs Castillo I is the better and more rewatchable fight. It's definitely the best fight of my lifetime. I agree that the Vasquez/Marquez fights are among the best fight series, Barrera/Morales too. I don't get calling the Barrera/Morales fights "overrated."
Yeah Barrera Morales fight are right up there. The 2nd fight wasnt that good, but the 1st & 3rd were great fights.
The only argument against MAB/Morales (not one I necessarily believe) is the fact that neither fighter was ever BADLY hurt.
Morales Vs Barrera 1 was just awesome. They went at it with such fury for a whole 12 rounds, neither one of them wanted to give an inch, they'd always answer right back after being tagged or hurt a bit. I think it's probably the second best fight ever after Chico Vs Castillo.
Perhaps...for me it was Castillo vs Corrales I. People asked me about the 9th round in Gatti-Ward (those that knew I was a huge boxing fan). "However" Guys literally asked me for a copy of Castillo vs Corrales I because they'd read it was "the greatest fight of all time." I originally missed the first four or five rounds of Castillo vs Corrales I because I was travelling the evening...when I finally turned on my phone I had no less than six voicemails asking if I were watching the fight. I picked up in round five or six and was glued to the tv.
Gatti/Ward got a lot more mainstream (as in boxing-clueless) coverage than Corrales/Castillo Corrales/Castillo was definitely a better, more important fight, but two white guys beating each other up is a big seller in America, let's not fucking kid ourselves here. I don't know if I can say for certain what the best fight I ever saw as it happened was, but Corrales/Castillo has got to be at or near the top. Ridiculous fight.
This is true. Castillo would have beaten Gatti down badly. So too would have Chico. Hell, Brandon Rios would beat the shit outta Gatti.
Castillo/Corrales was the best fight I have ever seen. For me, I hate that skilless bum Castillo and loved watching him get pummeled cold.
It was certainly one of the most satisfying KO's to watch in awhile. Probably the first time I stood up and cheered at the result since Shane destroyed Phony.
