Now who is being facetious. Conspiracy? Merely Konspiracy. I never mentioned conspiracy etc, I mentioned hacks flying kites in major broadsheet papers when they ought not to do so.

I can't remember a single writer who felt, with reason that Wlad vs Peter I was anything other than high on drama.

Maidana is a better fighter than anyone Wlad has defeated.

It was pretty high in drama but very low in sustained action. It was an OK fight, marred by Klitschko constant flopping on the ground to avoid fighting and clinching. It was an engaging but frustrating watch.

What kind of media reaction do you expect to a fighter who fought so excruciatingly negatively? Or that a guy who fought with (a fair amount of) machismo in a fight with 2 way exchanges would get a better reception?

Lets acknowledge a media bias which actually exists, eh....

The man was punched in the back of the head on the first one. For the third one, his foot was stepped on as he was cracked with a right. I mean, this is a classic example of what I am talking about. People don't even remember what happened, they just substitute in their own version of what happened.

If Khan fought as you say he did, he only did so as Maidana forced him to, otherwise Khan would have run away all night doing his fluster job and racking up rounds, which is what Freddie Roach had promised from the get go. Let's not make virtue out of necessity. Oh he manned up, Well fuck me, get that kid a medal.

Fine. But the media like exciting fights and hate negative stink fighters. Why don't we compare tabloid coverage of Andre ward and Micky Ward in the US and see what ethnic biases we can uncover there.

    You lose.

Wlad is not a negative stink fighter. He stops guys. Like Khan, he only fights when he is made to. It's not like Khan is in a tear up every time. His fights with Malignaggi and Kotelnik were stink fests, far more than Wlads with Peter, Chagaev.

Even the Chambers fight was ended in some style.

This is pure Steve Kim territory.

Picks Peter to beat Klitschko, then won't talk about the fight, says it "Bored him".

This is what is trotted out now. When you can't get rid of a guy, say he is boring, even if he has a slew of very respectable recent stoppages.

    *sigh*

You are comparing the coverage of Klit-Peter to Khan-Maidana, remember. Wlad was horrendously stinky in that fight.

No he wasn't......he threw and landed the most clean shots, finished stronger, and actively sought the KO in the last round, and nearly got one with one shot, despite instructions from Steward to do nothing of the sort.

He actually went looking for a stoppage in the 12th against the orders of his corner. Watch the tape.

What you think Freddie's instructions were to Khan? Run like fuck.

Khan fought cos he was made and and ran his ass off when he could. Let's not make this out to be Hatton vs Tszyu here.

Khans fights would be the same if he could get away with it. He actively seeks to be a stink fester, it just so happens he was forced into a fight last night and responded with some running when he got the worst of it.

The difference is that Klitschko is looking to end his fights on stoppages, even here fights he wasn't supposed to win are won, even where his corner have told him not to do so.

Khan follows his corners orders to stink.

    Wlad ignores them.

Agreed. They have almost exactly the same style. (I said as much the other week and you vehemently disagreed).

But when he couldn't dominate in that way against Maidana result was 2 way exchanges and a display of machismo and in the Wlad-Peter fight it was Wlad flopping to the ground 20 odd times and clinching the whole time. One fight had the crowd on it's feet and screaming the other didn't.

Wlad punches way, way harder and gets more stoppages but he doesn't entertain, generally.

How is it that Irish is consistently able to turn any thread into a Klitschko thread?

The failure of everyone on earth but Irish & the nation of Germany to recognise that the Klitschko's make very, very exciting fights is the elephant in every boxing discussion.

So I just reread the coverage. You're right - side by side it's a ridiculous distortion. And I agree with generally as I've said that the Klits are underrated, under appreciated in terms of their ability/dominance and so on. Much better than most people are willing to admit.

Things I don't agree with (closely linked). 1) public indifference to them in Britain/America is caused by that negative media coverage...if that's your assertion. The two have common root in the fact they just don't appeal at any kind of visceral level either in or out the ring. Maybe that's a deficiency in the anglo psyche or some shit, but it is what it is,,,, 2) That their style is actually exciting because they score KOs. I like watching the Klitschko's but their fights never have any 2 way exchanges like we saw last night or any sense of abandon in their aggression that creates a sense of uncontrolled violence like say Tyson or Naseem hamed taking a guy apart. That doesn't make them worse fighters one bit, but I don't see the point in denying it or getting pissed off that they're under appreciated on the back of it. It'd be like me getting angry at the fact the public & tabloids liked Guns N Roses better than the Pixies or some shizz.

Well on this occasion it is actually an inter-European thing, I brought up two articles from what is EASILY Britains most respected newspaper, both of which managed to report in two very different ways on two very similar fights.

Didn't Maidana say an hour after the Khan fight, that he was still feeling the effects of the body shot he took in the 1st round? Quality stuff.

Agreed. The Guardian has the lowest circulation among Britain's broadsheet media and is almost exclusively the bastion of students, tree-huggers, wooly liberals and middle-aged academics with too much time on their hands.

Yes.....that's like saying The Sun is a respected publication because it sells like hot cakes.

    I said it was respected.

I didn't say it was read by charva louts in their millions.

You said it was 'EASILY Britain's most respected newspaper'. Respected by who, exactly? about 90% of the population don't even know it exists, and certainly they don't read the damn thing...
