I have to concur. Though I think Joe's speed and ring smarts gives him a chance. But I think Joe gets hit enough and against Kovalev, that won't get it done. Its a good fight. But Kovalev via late stoppage.
Joe has a great chin and can adapt during a fight. Joe is getting the Hatton treatment here, this time without justification.
If you're gonna beat Kov with speed, then it's gonna have to be exceptional speed, like Jones. The handspeed gap between Calz and Kov isn't that big, IMO. You have consider that Joe was slapping a lot. Kov has full power on every punch, and still manages to throw quick and fluid combos.
A TAD Early on the Stoppage, but it Wouldn't have Mattered...There were 2 FULL Minutes Remaining in the 8th...Pascal Would've Tasted the Canvas &/or Gotten Stopped Eventually...He WASN'T Going to See Round 9hno:... Really Not Much to Say about Kovalev that HASN'T Already Been Uttered...He Showed a Good Set of Whiskers, Absorbing Countless Hard, Winging Shots from Pascal (Who's Not w/Out Punching Power)...So Now we KNOW he's Not Chinny... Believe it or Not, REED was Slightly Disappointed w/Kovalev's Punch Selection Throughout...Primarily, he Threw 1-2's...Left Jab-Right Hand, Left Jab-Right Hand...Pascal Started Shoulder Rolling the Right Hands (Effectively), Leaning Into Position for Kovalev's Left Hooks, But Strangely, Kovalev DIDN'T Throw as Many of Them as he Customarily Does...He'd have Ended Pascal EARLIER, by Utilizing his Left Hook More... If there's a RE, No Doubt John David Jackson will Pick Up on that & Kovalev Will Dispose of Pascal w/Even Less Fuss...Pascal's Simply OUTGUNNED, as is the Case w/Probably Every Other Lightheavy, Stevenson Included, when Faced w/the Krusher... BALLSY Effort from Pascal...This is a Respect EARNING Loss, Much like Gamboa's Defeat @ the Hands of Terrance Crawford... REED:mj:
Not to sound like the late Manny, but the fight went just about as I expected. Pascal having his moments, and landing a few good shots, but ultimately getting batttered. Which poster is the one who said that Pascal had a chance to hang in there with Kov because he took Froch's best. :::::: I hope that poster now understands the difference between Farmer Froch's power and Kov's.
When he throws the jab, you can see it in round one, he jabs, then steps back, sort of boxing-by-numbers. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o0Hv5yYWCyQ?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

:laugh11:Kovalev Admitted to PACING Himself vs. Hopkins, Due to the Uncertainty of NEVER Going 12 Rounds, Previously...That Mental Hurdle is a Thing of the Past...You're Right, he'd KO Hopkins Now... & Yeah, a Speed Bag has Taken Fewer Shots than the Souf' Side of Kovalev's Trunks Did... REED:shadow:
That was Feebles, and techncially, he was correct. Pascal had a chance to stand in there and took it, he just got worn down. He may not have had his moments, but he did have his moment..............he lost not so much because Kov hit so much harder than Froch, in so much as Kov also has a chin as good as Froch.
HBO has done this before, with the Hattons and others. I think Obed Sullivan got KO'd by either Tua or Oquendo and his wife was wailing and screeching in the background, with HBO desperately trying to get a shot of it.
And who did the Welsh coker ever fight like Kov? As I said, in his physical prime he had a violent scrap with Charles Brewer. Even though he dominated for the most part, Brewer was able to hurt him several times. Joe was NEVER a defensive wiz, and he had a solid chin, but not a granite one. I suspect he would do well against Kov for awhile. But over the course of the fight, I think Kov would be plain and simple too strong and powerful for the Welshman.
Boxing Fans Often OVERSTATE a Guy Being "Ruined" or Compromised in Some Way, but you're RIGHT in this Case... Kovalev's Power is NO Joke...His Shots Short Circuits Opponents & the Reactions are Sometimes STRANGE...The Campillo KO, for Instance...& Kovalev is Remorseless in Delivering Blows to a Helpless Foe... Yeah, Kov just seems like a ruthless person in general. Seems like a friendly enough guy, but might also be a borderline sociopath. Unlike Golov, who's ruthless in the ring yet a teddy bear outside the ring. Kov just seems like a hard and ruthless man. The stereotypical emotionless Russian. If he wasn't so talented in the ring, he'd probably be an enforcer for the Russian mob.
Brewer caught him with a few flush right hands (which I admit he can't afford to take against Kovalev) but I don't feel he was really hurt. The only times I believe he was genuinely hurt was against Eubank in the last round and against Roy when he was caught with a freak forearm smash. Joe was better defensively than you're giving him credit for, he could slip punches very well when he perceived the opponent posed a legitimate threat, power-wise.
He stood in front of Jones and dared him to hit him, and Jones couldn't do it. Lets face it, Joe in 2010 could still hit people. Calzone is the most defeated fighter in the history of the internet.
Kovalev has Fought & Beaten BETTER Fighters than GGG Has, with 1/10th of the Hype...He's Infinitely More PROVEN than GGG... Most have a HUNCH GGG is the Goods, Whereas Kovalev is DEMONSTRATING he's the Goods...Until GGG Actually FIGHTS Somebody, it's a Disservice to Kovalev to Compare Them... REED:mj:
Fair enough. I just hope JDJ doesn't impart any of his "Lets get KTFO in a fight we are dominating" wisdom.
Brewer hurt him with a left uppercut to end one of the rounds. Which round, I can't recall. But I definitely remember Brewer landing a left uppercut which had Joe momentarily dazed. I'm not underrated Calz' defense. You're underrating Kov's accuracy and ability to hit guys from weird angles with shots that don't look like much, yet have them Judah dancing.
Yes, but Kovalev wouldn't have fought Hopkins unless he swallowed his pride and fought for a measley $200,000, which is a pittance. Kov wouldn't have got the fights unless he was prepared to travel.G Granted, he is Russian, but he fought Hopkins, Pascal and Cleverley on "enemy" territory. GGG is absolutely the #1 MW contender and we all KNOW he wants, but cannot get, a shot against the MW Champ.
If that fight had happened 10 years earlier he woulda been standing in front of Jones trying to figure out how not to get punched in the face. And Calz is given the proper amount of respect. He was a very good fighter. Kov is IMO a borderline special fighter. You just don't see many guys who combine his level of freak power WITH skill and fluidity.

Yeah, but the shell of Jones still landed hooks for fun on guys like Tito and Lacy. This internet notion of Joe now being hit for fun and wiped out by Kovalev is nonsense. This is how boxing shits all over itself, every time.
